UPB issue

Need help...

I recently purchased a home with an OmniPro II System installed. The system was installed approximately 5 years ago.
The system has pretty much run flawlessly. I recently replaced a non-functioning temperature sensor and upgraded the Firmware (from Version 2.15a to Version 3.11) to take advantage of some of the additional programming features, and mobile apps available.

After upgrading, PC Access and the control panel no longer show the current status of any of the installed HAI switches.
Each individual switch can be controlled via PC Access or the control panel, and the status will be updated. If I physically use the switch, it's status is not updated and reflected back to the OmniPro.

I've tried to re-configure the switches through the panel, and through PC Access, but both give me the error - No module found.
The upgrade also reset my two 8-button house status switches.

My Russound controller no longer reflects its status back to the OmniPro either - it's almost as if the serial ports have only one-way communication.

Looking for any help or advice.

As far as the switched not reporting status, have you tried to configure them in Upstart? (http://homeauto.com/Support/Downloads/upstart.asp) There is an option to make them report status.

Unfortunately I don't have the cable and adapter to use upstart (currently on order).

I've tried downgrading back to version 2.15 but have the same issue now with the 2.15 firmware installed.
Is there any settings in PC Access or through the controller itself to enable status reporting? I've even tried resetting the switches back to factory defaults with no luck.

I've also noticed that programs are running slower - I have programmed lights to turn on with the opening certain of doors. Where the lights used to come on within a second or two, now takes 5 seconds or more.

You may want to post up your programming lines. You could have some logic issues going on that are causing the slow down. For the UPB status issues, I'd just wait until you have the cable & PIM and figure it out with Upstart. Once you're in there, you'll be able to see exactly how every switch is setup. Right now, it's just guessing.

The Omni doesn't track status in UPB mode, you have to use HLC mode and the unit ID allocation scheme of HLC to track switch status.

I'm actually using HLC mode. Everything worked fine before the upgrade.

After upgrading the firmware, the OmniPro II was erased, and I had to upload the saved settings from PC Access. I was thinking that something was reset or changed that is not stored in PC Access.

On a side note, do you think it's possible this is a PIM failure? Maybe the cable from the OmniPro to the PIM?

I did notice that some of my programming was not running correctly the day before upgrading. I have a line of programming that turns on a light with the motion sensor, only if the light is already off. I noticed that the motion sensor turned on the light regardless of the light status. This now leads me to believe this was an issue before the upgrade.

Is there an easy way to test the PIM (without Upstart)?

While in theory you can connect a HAI PIM to upstart, I have never gotten it to work. You need to build a special cable. Also note, the PIM runs in two different modes. Upstart requires one mode and the panel requires the other. Basically the panel puts the PIM in a simplier mode so it doesn't have to process lots of extra info. Upstart uses the more data intensive mode. All in all, its best to use two PIMs, one on the panel and one with Upstart.

PIMs don't fail very often, with the exception of a lightning strike.

Just thought I'd update everyone on the issue.

Seems I had two issues.

1) The HAI PIM was faulty. The PIM could transmit commands to control lights, but could not receive, so light status could not be updated.
2) Several of my switches were faulty. Similar problem - they would receive and be controlled by the OmniPro, but would not not transmit, so when put into setup mode, my panel could not see them.

Obvious now why the whole system was slow -  since the OmniPro could not see the status of the switches, it would resend the commands (3 times in my case), delaying any further programming.

Sounds like maybe you had an electrical problem (brown out or surge) taking out some hardware.

Thanks for the update, always appreciate it when people follow up on their problem, it helps others in similar situations.

I had a similiar occurance when first implementing UPB on my HAI OPII.

That said I didn't notice it until I started to configure the OPII panel to UPB HLC mode.

It was just a defective PIM (which was purchased new).

Recently I installed a second HAI PIM in a different part of the house and connected it to a Quatech serial server.  It is working fine with Upstart.
