UPB Links HAI 8 button control

I am trying to link several groups of HAI UPB switches to different buttons on a HAI 8 button controller. I am using UPSTART software. If I control the link through the UPSTART it works fine. If I control it through the 8 button switch set for link activator i get all but two. I am still learning the links and how best to use them. The idea was to control the turning off of groups of lights from the 8 button controller with the led indicating that one of the units was on. Thanks in advance for any and all input. I believe it is possible but am out of ideas.

Thanks
Chris

If you have HAI 8-button controllers and HAI switches, and an HAI panel, you can actually program the switches without UPSTART using the panel. This is the easy method and probably a good idea if you are just starting out and have a panel. You can also go the UPSTART route, but its a bit more complex. So do you have an HAI panel? Do you have Homeseer, CQC, or another automation system? Or just switches? The answers to these questions determine which method you will use.

There is an Omni Pro II. From what I have been told the HAI 8 button out the box is for rooms 1-8. I have more than eight rooms. Some are in different rooms.

Thanks

Need more details - you can do a lot with the LEDs on that controller but there are limits. The buttons can do most anything, more then the LEDs can track in some cases.

If you do not want to use the 8-button to monitor the first eight rooms and use your own actions, you can put it in any slot other than 8. You can then do programming based on the button presses.

The house has about 150 HAI UPB switches. 20 or so rooms. Some have 5 button scene controllers. The customer would like to know if lights in certain rooms are on before he leaves. Most of the rooms to monitor have more than 7 switches which puts them in a second room. The 8 button would control turning off only. The idea was if any light was on in the room or rooms it would light the led on the 8 button. Pressing that button would turn them off. Thanks for the info is there anything else that I left out. I am very fimilar with HAI programing but not on Links.

Well the LEDs respond to links and if I understand you, you would like them to, in effect, respond to the state of one or more devices. I cannot, off the top of my head, think of a way to do this using just UPB devices.

It would be relatively easy to do if you have an automation controller that "understands" UPB as part of the installation.

Do you by any chance?

CRB33,

You definitely should check out HLC mode on the OmniPro II. By properly addressing your 8-button keypads you can set them up as "house status" switches, each of which can monitor the state of eight rooms. Set the 8-button keypad on unit 8, 16, 24, or 32 and it will monitor the states of rooms 1-8. Set the 8-button keypad to unit 40, 48, 56, or 64 to monitor rooms 9-16, and so on. Pressing the button on the keypad will toggle the room on/off. HLC mode automatically monitors the dimmers in each room and shows the status of the room using the LED on the 8-button keypad. Units 1-8 are assigned to room 1, units 9-16 are room 2, and so on. The first unit in each room is reserved for a 6-button "room controller" keypad, but the other seven units can control seven loads in the room. Use the OmniPro II to configure the switches, and the setup is super easy.

I understand that and will work in some rooms. How would I handle the rooms that have more than 7 switches and want to use one button one button on the 8 button control to monitor? Thanks
