UPB Switches

wow...sorry?

I was only stating in my experiene,I've no issues with Gen I.

I was not saying Gen II = bad.

If you want Gen II, go for it. I have no idead of the costs. I hope the op would hve looked himself. I was only offering that I didn't need it...in either house with anything that I've ever hooked up. So, if they DID cost more, the op would be able to say...maybe I can save a lot of coin. If they are the same price, great get GenII. I've not looked...again thought it should be up to the op to find pricing.

Sorry my opinion and experiences caused you so much pain.

Relax Dan, don't take what I said personal, it was not meant to be at all. Sure there are LOTS of people that have Gen I stuff and have no issues and may never. Gen II is nothing magical or expensive, its just the protocol tweaked to include adjustable sensitivity among other things that make the protocol more immune to noise. I just want the OP and others in similar situation reading this that it makes the most sense to use a Gen II device. Two out of the three manufacturers (PCS and HAI) use Gen II, SAI is the only one still sticking to Gen I. SAI doe have a popular and unique feature in their changeable faceplates. But since Web Mountain switches are EXACT SAI switches just with Gen II firmware, you can pretty much say you can Get II firmware in any of the manufacturers style. You may never need it, your powerline *may* stay clean forever but if it ever changes for the worse, you will likely be pulling out your Gen I switches whereas Gen II will work better in the noisy environment.

Maybe a bad analogy, but if you had your choice of 2 exact or very similar houses but the only difference was 1 house had a built in backup generator and the houses cost pretty much the same, which would you choose? Sure, both houses will be great and you may never need a backup generator, but if you ever do, you'll be glad you already had it.

So I'm sorry if you misunderstood my point and took it personal. :(

I'll post about my Gen I devices. We used to have interfering noise - my testing showed it was coming from the street and at the time there was not much to be done other than whole house filter. To me, not worth it as the noise was intermittent.

That said, over the last year or so, whatever the noise was has gone away and my Gen I stuff is working fine.

I do plan on adding some new devices soon and will choose Gen II to cover myself down the road....

Thanks for all the responses!!

Since i'm putting in all new stuff, I will go with GenII to ensure everything work okay in the future. The Web Mountain GenII switches are only a little more expensive than the SA's from what I've seen so its not bad.

Is there a way to tell what generation my HAI PIM is? Are the current HAI PIM's all GenII?

Thanks again!

Most everything shipped by HAI or PCS for at least the last year or so *should* be Gen II. The HAI PIM *may* have a silver sticker with 'G2' on it. If not, I guess you will have to look at the firmware rev and have HAI say if its Gen II.

I have used HAI switches... simply because I have a HAI panel and the sitches are very easily integrated and configured.

Same here, but I sure do wish HAI would offer multi-rocker switches like SA and Web Mountain. I have several places where I'm going to be needing those.

I am using HAI switches which are controlled by CQC. I like the HAI switches; they are attractive, and imo have a nice feel to them (I don't care for the heavy click of the SAI switches). I have about 15 installed so far, and have been very happy with them.
