uplink2500 with ElkM1G

I am setting this up and have a couple questions hopefully someone can help me answer. First, I have telephone1 set to communicate through IP using the XEP to the central station. I want to use the uplink as telephone2 and use as backup. The drop down box for telephone 2 does not allow me to choose option 1, Use as back up. Any Idea on how to fix that or is it not possible? If I can't set the uplink to backup the IP monitoring, is it bad that they are both communicating?
Also, I want to set a rule to supervise the uplink connection. I wrote the text that they recommended in the xsp directions. When I go to make the rule it asks me what port to monitor and I am not sure which one to select. My XSP is connected to the M1 keypad bus.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you pick the comm format?
 
There's a specific order for setting the primary and then secondary, but from memory, I believe all is contained in the XSP documents or RP's error boxes when it protests.
 
As far as the rule goes, you need to know which serial port the Uplink is connected to....you should know the address or serial port #, if not, look in RP.
