Vizia RF Remote

It seems that all signs are pointing to me needing a new remote. Here is my situation. I have several vizia rf dimmers controlled via a monster avl300 remote which also controls my av equipment hidden away. I installed a vizia 4 scene controller and I have the serial interface (rzcop) waiting to go. The problem is I cannot use the avl300 to set these devices up in the zwave network. I think I will need a leviton rf remote to hanlde this.

1. Is the leviton remote the only choice here? If not what else?

2. Can I still use the avl 300 to control lights if I use the leviton remote? Can the avl 300 be secondary remote?

Mike

if you are sure it's the 4 scene controller (push button) and not the 4 zone controller (rocker style) then you may be able to get away with something like the zth100 as a primary. if the monster can become a secondary controller then you may be ok. you would have to check with monster about making it a secondary. also, the other major consideration is assigning the associations. you may be stuck with the ability to include the node to your network with a zth100 but need some other program to set assocations properly like homeseer.

i have only used the 4 zone controllers and have found that only the leviton remote's will work for inclusion. 1st you have to actually include the in wall controller like a module so it obtains a node id and then you can program associations to each button.

you may be able to get away with some software/usb stick solutions coming out from controlthink, homeseer, & wayne dalton soon.

easiest thing would be to get a leviton remote as primary, setup the scene controller, and copy everything over to your monster as secondary if it supports that function.

also, cooper wiring just came out with a scene contoller similar to the one you have. you may want to check into theirs to see if other remotes can program them.

this is an old post about the 300 as a secondary remote http://www.cocoontech.com/index.php?showtopic=6343

It is my understanding that currently the only way to include/assign nodes to the RZC0P is with a Leviton Remote.

no problem Mike. if you can post your results i would appreciate it. helps me out in certain situations also...

Thank you both for your inputs.

Mike

I will do that. When I get a chance I will probably pick up a leviton remote and try to use the monster as a secondary. According to the link you posted it may be feasible.
If you have a laptop and a Z-Wave USB stick then the new Z-Tool should work for you. It's cheaper than a remote.

Rupp,

Thanks for the heads up. Would you be referring to something like the control think, homeseer device or wayne dalton? If so I might like that idea, I will have to do a little research. I just realized you refer to it a the Z-Tool. Thanks, I will take a look.

Mike

what he refers to is specialized flavors of the software for setting up networks. i did refer to it however double check with the software manufacturers if they can set the proper associations and program the scene controller before you buy them. in my case i had called homeseer a while back before the z-tool was out and their full blown product can manually set the assocations for the scene controller. the problem was that i would need to run homeseer all of the time which i did not need to do. it's kind of a workaround to having to use the handheld but 6 of 1 half dozen of another.

Will you be able to get Vizia's two way feedback if you program using the standard zwave stick or otherwise? I have no experience doing so as i use the vizia remote and the elk ZW, but i would doubt it given some of the propritary stuff i see in the implementation.

Well, I guess you can say I gave in. I just place an order for a leviton rf remote. I will let you know how things go with my set-up. I will try the new remote as primary and my monster avl300 as secondary.
