Web Control Communication Problem

Today I got my CAI Web Control board. Still I'm not able to communicate to it.
The red LED is on constantly, the green one is flashing

Connecting it directly to my iMac, I've tried to ping it at with 192.168.1.15 (where my iMac's IP address is set to 192.168.1.1). Can't ping it - I'm receiving:

I also tried to connect to it with DHCP - I'm getting a 169.xx.xx.xx IP number then on my iMac.
Tried also Cross cable the same.
Any help?

So you have tried plugging this device into your network, then booted it up, and checked your router for the IP address it obtained via DHCP?

I just connect the board to my Motorola Netopia Router with Ethernet. Booted it up - and it seems that I don't receive any IP. The LED on the Router indicates me that the Ethernet cable is connected.

This is what I get when from the Router:
192.168.1.3 from my Macbook Air connected via Ethernet
192.168.1.48 from my iMac wireless connected
192.168.1.43 from my iPad wireless connected.

No WebControl board is showing up. I also replaced the Ethernet cable.

I fear that the board has some defect, despite the fact that all relevant LED's at the board (red/green) and on the router indicating a ethernet cable is connnected.

Do you have another idea what I could try?

This thread shows another user having the same exact problem. Looks like disabling DHCP and using a static ip might be the fix. Is this something you have tried?

Have you adddresssed this? The DHCP server needs to be dishing out 192. addresses.

Also: Double check that there is only one dhcp server on your network.

Also: to use the static address of 192.168.1.15, it may be that you have to literally follow the instructions exactly.

The FAQ at http://www.redhillnetworks.com/products/webcontrol/webcontrol-faq.htm l states:
" If you don′t have DHCP server on your network, WebControl's default IP address is 192.168.1.15. You must change your computer's IP address temporarily to 192.168.1.1, (make sure no other host using that IP address on your network), then from IE browser enter: http://192.168.1.15/ You will see the login screen. " (my emphasis.)

The WebControl can be configured to accept commands from only those IP addresses specified and set using the "Security" tab using a browser once you can communicate through the html interface. They may come from the factory allowing access only from 192.168.1.1 when not using DHCP. This would be a useful security measure.

Your first post indicated that you did set to 192.168.1.1, but it wasn't clear whether all DHCP servers were disabled.

Your subsequent post indicated that the IP address for your computer was 192.168.1.3 , not 1.1

Also, power down/up the Webcontrol between various attempts.

I have three WebControl boards purchased at various times but all have been reconfigured numerous times so I can't test this notion/hypothesis.

Thanks Dan and Marc for your both comment / suggestions.

When I used a direct connection between the board and my iMac (or Macbook Air) via Ethernet, I used the IP 192.168.1.1 on the Mac - the board didn't reply when pinging it at 192.168.1.15. I tried both - a straight and a crossed cable.
When I used my Router, I used it with DHCP, I saw both Macs but no Webcontrol board at all.

In the other thread Dan was referring to with the same problem - at least a direct connection was possible and a the router indicated 192.168.1.15 as the IP of the board. I'm getting here neither.

What I'm really wondering is why I get all LED's on / flashing as it should be, even the ones at the ethernet connector at the board start flashing when connecting the cable or I try to ping the board. But nothing more.


I got the board via Amazon through a friend of mine who lives in Oregon. I'm from Switzerland - it is a bit complicated to try to return the board back to the US and to ask for a replacement. Before I try to do this, what else would you suggest to me?

Wrotham connect RJ45 network cable, but there is no connection.
Indicator lights on the connector does not light up.
The module does not ping.
Tell me how the wire should be connected directly to computer?
Tried on PC and MAC. The result is not yet connected.
Any assistance conditional.

WebControl defaults to static IP, not DHCP.
 
Set a computer statically to the same subnet as WebControl see pages 5, 6 in user manual. WebControl defaults to 192,168.1.15. Set PC to 192.168.1.10 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Don't need to set default gateway or DNS. Either set WebControl statically to desired IP address of your LAN or switch it to DHCP to be configured automatically. Once you change the address will also need to change your PC.
 
If light in the connector is off it means there is no link, double check cable. I'm not sure if WebControl does AutoMDIX, I've always connected it to a switch to configure. If you connect WeControl directly to a PC may need a crossover cable if neither PC or WebControl do AutoMDIX.

If you connect directly to computer, you will need to use cross over cable. The normal straight through cable will not work.  When you connect to a switch, the switch will do the cross over for you. However, most PC network interfaces do not have that function.
 
In the Ethernet communication for 10BaseT and 100BaseT, they use two pairs of the total four pairs wires to do the communication. One pair for sending, one pair for receiving. If you did not use a cross over cable, then PC's sending pair will talk to WebControl's sending pair, PC's receiving pair will talk to WebControl's receiving pair, thus the light will not light up on the socket and communication is not made.
 
You can make your own cross over cable, if you have crimping tool and headers. Otherwise, you can buy a ready to use one from most computer store.

I connected to the router WebControl direct power cable.
 
The yellow LED on the module and the LED on the router.
 
On the computer IP 192.168.1.11
the router is 192.168.1.1
The module is still not pinged.
DHCP is disabled.
 
How bruzerom better use? I have a Google Chrom.
 
Google Chrom might have problem with PLC code, but it should allow you to login into GUI fine.
On the WebControl network socket, there are two LED lights, one is green to indicate the connection made, another one is amber blinking to indicate network activity.  When you say Yellow LED on the module, do you mean the one on the network socket?
 
Also, please note WebControl only works at 10 BaseT half duplex speed. Please make sure your router or switch supporting that speed. We did hear from couple people in the past that they set their router or switch to fixed higher speed.
 
Since each board is partially programmed through the network interface before place the serial number sticker on the back of the board, we know for sure the board does not have problem to connect to network.  Please check and verify the speed of your router or firewall.  WebControl's default IP address is 192.168.1.15 with DHCP disabled.

Yes you are right green LED is lit and the yellow flashes in the time of the request to the address 192.168.1.15 only twice.
Then after a while and goes green at this point page shows inability to connect.
After that lights up green again and krtkovremenno flashing yellow.
If it can help.
I'm trying to find where to set the speed of the router 10 BaseT?
