What can this control relay be used for?

CA2DN22B6 IEC CONTROL RELAY 24V DC 2 NO & 2 CONTACTS

I have a box (12) of these but have no idea if I can use. Anyone know a use for them?

not much info in this link. http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productde...=AFC-TL10000001

are they worthless for anytype of home automation?
From this page it looks like it is a 24V AC contactor. One possible use for these is switching line level HVAC with a 24V AC thermostat. You could use a transformer to supply 24VAC and switch this with the thermostat to control the contactor - the contactor would then switch the line level circuits.

I think the 10 amp rating is your limiting factor. If they were rated for 20/30 or higher you'd be in better shape.. check out my latest posts in my showcase for how i use them and/or intend to... with a higher rating, you could cycle water heater / pool pump/etc

if you can't fiqure out any use for them, at $80 a piece retail, you might make a few bucks on eBay . .

Almost limitless potential if thats a 600v 10amp contactor with a 24v trigger!

outdoor lighting
fan controls
indoor lighting

Basically anywhere you would consider hardwiring a an x10 style appliance module or relay switch you could switch with that if you can hide it. So in the attic adding christmas light outlets would be cake, same for porch fan on/off. You can add that next to the load and use the existing dumb switch as an automatic or off switch. It's not going to dim anything, just on/off.

Water heater can be a big load depending on the type but I would hardly say 10amps is a problem.

Collin, I think I understand. So i wouldnt need anything but this switch, I dont need an x10 or anything else, right? Just directions on how to wire this switch, LOL.

Well you would also need:

24V power supply to hit the triggers with.
I better means to distribute 24v if you want to use many of these.
Some kind of IO controller to switch the 24v to the contactor.
Ability to get wire from controller to the contactor.
Junction boxes to put them in as those won't fit in single gang boxes.
Extra romex to go between the load and the new junction box.

Keep the 10amp limit in mind, you can't use this to open/close a bunch of loads.

I think trying to use this in a typical home automation scenario that uses either X-10 120 VAC, or 12 VDC for control is more trouble than it's worth unless you really need the 600 VAC contact rating.

I believe you can get 12 vdc control relays for ten amp 220 VAC loads for under ten bucks. :)

I like the earlier suggestion above, sell them on EBay. :)

Well thats true too, you might check what they will bring. These are more $ then what you would have normally bought for the job I just dunno about their used/eBay value. I would find out though. :)

thanks collin. Brave, you are likely right. I probably wont use them anyway. If someone offered $10 for one i would take it. $8 each for whole case. Think I will list them here first then ebay.
