What do you think of these solutions for HD dist?

I think that is probably the future. BUT..... it will be expensive and problematic in the beginning and as stated, there is still the power cord. I think for the short term it is still going to be easier to run power and LV wires to behind the TV for a completely "wireless" look.

This is really designed more for the average non-technical consumer. I have a friend that just bought a flat screen and paid about $400 to have in mounted on a wall. He still has wires showing. Now he is totally non-technical and cannot even hook up his cable HD box - he is paying for the installers to come back and do that.

I on the other hand got a new flatscreen and paid $28 for a mount from Monoprice. I ran power and LV wires behind the TV and don't have any boxes located in the room, rather they are in a cental wiring closet. So I spend a lot less money and have a much nicer set up. Granted it is part of a larger automation setup, so I already had some of the control devices installed, but I could easily do a IR repeater system from scratch and still come in under the $400 that my friend paid.

I would have done the same thing even with one of the wireless TVs even if they had been available, but my buddy might have had a cleaner look than what he has now.

Sorry to sound sarcastic, but the only winners with respect to WirelessHD will be the firms that collect the royalty checks from all of the other manufactures once this is "built-in" to everything on the planet.

The average Jack and Jill won't be able to figure out how to configure this thing, just look at how many people can't setup a wireless WiFi access-point themselves. Take into account that the studios will force mountains of DRM on this thing and I can just see your average persons eyes glaze over. The marketing for this standard claims it will simplify things, but I bet the typical consumer will end up needing a "geek squad" type person to program it up for them. It will probably cost them $400 for that in home service too, maybe Monster Cable should think about getting in on that action?

And as someone else pointed out you will still need power cords for everything...

I'm skeptical as well.

The past has shown us that wired is better than wireless.

Look at your cell phone (30 years of evolution?), ever dropped a call or had static? Yes you can say it is a moving target, but you get my point.
Look at sage wireless extenders, I think people agree that wireless is not working yet.

Let's assume it is workable, will it be immune from interference? What if I have a microwave nearby?

If it adds $100 on both ends, you can probably get an electician or local professional to install it cleanly in the wall for not much more than that and have no potential issues.

Is it cool? You betcha. I'd just rather do it the old fashioned way (and not have to buy a $100 box for all my equipment as well, or more for a switching box to beam it). It is a nice tool to have, but it should be deployed like and end point, not integrated (in my opinion), at least in the early stages. A plug in module that lets some people opt for the more expensive model makes more sense than comparing two monitors and seeing this one be more expensive because of the link. Just seems to make more sense to me.
