WiFi receptions

Been having trouble with my WiFi connection. I was using the Linksys G router with Speed Booster, but then switched to the D-Link DIR-655. This router was N based so I thought it would be better, but I was still having problems connecting (with my Droid X). I sent my Droid X into repair to Motorola (thinking it was the problem), and ordered a TrendNet wireless N AP (TEW-637AP) also to supplement. All I know is that I got my Droid X back out of repair and that this AP isn't helping much. Any ideas? All I want is a solid WiFi signal in my house (2500 sf 2 stories).

Hey iostream - just a couple of things... do you have your AP up in the master closet where the wiring box is? Wifi doesn't like walls - especially a space like that - it'll have trouble bouncing around. To get around this I always keep my WAP separate from my router. In this place, I have the AP down in the kitchen - since they were kind enough to put two jacks there I put the AP on top of the kitchen cabinets where you can't really see it. I get an awesome signal even in a 4K sq. ft. house.

Most recently I drove down to cyberguys.com (It's in Rancho Cordova) and picked up a Picostation2HP - now even with it in that crappy closet space, it reaches about 10 houses down across the street - I can just imagine when I get it centrally located where the other is.

Last - if any of your software or adapters will allow for a wireless survey - it'd be good to see which frequency has the least congestion - and set yours to that channel.

You know the house came with a wiring closet that is in the master closet (upstairs corner of the property) which was where the router used to live. After changing to the N based I moved it downstairs on top of my media center (ie. high off the ground and in the center of the house). I really did not notice much of a change. I thought N was supposed to have a farther range anyways. The AP arrived earlier today. It is under my desk on the floor. My Droid gets a 'fair' signal and thats with me about 3 feet away. <_<
