Normal wifi can handle a few cams at full resolution. That said, the very nature of IP cameras is contradictory to the very nature of wifi. Cameras want to have 100% constant connection; a WAP's mission is to split time pretty evenly between a bunch of different devices.
In an extreme case, I set up a network where the main NVR was in an office at the front of a property. From there, it went over a 2500' Point to Point link to a tower - then from that tower to outbuildings over a 2,300 acre property, where they provided uplink to the local WAP's and "hardwired" cameras, as well as the wifi cameras.
All said and done, the network supported two dozen WAP's and outbuildings with dozens of clients, and about 25 cameras recording to blue iris. I didn't have to turn the frame rate down much at all - it was near perfect streaming for all cameras simultaneously over what was ultimately the one PTP link from the tower to the office as the bottleneck. It was a fun project.
