Windows 7 and ELK RP and ELKRM etc

About to be dragged into the 21st century and going to buy a new laptop. All the operating systems now are based on Windows 7 just wondering if ELKRP and ELK RM and the other tools for the M1 work OK?

Just thinking about a 32 bit system.

Appreciate any feedback on compatibility with the MI system programming tools.

Thanks and regards,

I thought Elk RP does not work in Windows 7 64? I haven't been able to get it to work in the past. Have they updated their program to allow it to function properly recently?

It's been 18 months since I updated or patched any Elk modules. I spent today and updated all the Elk modules to latest firmware. I happy to say I updated RP2 2.0.6, M1G 5.2.2, and XEP 1.3.10 to latest firmware versions without finding any major problems. Elk RP2 is running fine on my Window 7 x64 box.

The Elk RP2 installer was nice enough to leave original Elk RP installed and not touch database (it made a copy). I will probably un-install Elk RP1 in a month. I did do quite a bit of reprogramming today with Elk RP2. In addition, I did a walk test too.

My experience w/ Windows 7 64 bit and my ElkM1G:
ElkRP works fine
ElkRMS works fine
ElkRMS Setup utility will not run on Windows 7. I have contacted Elk Tech Support on this (after trying to install it several times) and their answer was: "At this time the RM Setup Utility is not compatible with Windows 7 32/64 Bit computers. Our Engineers are aware of this situation and are evaluating." That was in May.

FYI, ElkRM Setup utility allows you to make changes to the ElkRMS screens.

Hope this late post helps.

Maybe we could get an update on what is happening on the ELKRM Setup utility from ELK on the Windows 7 front?

David you there?

Finally got a chance to fire up the new Windows 7 64 bit Acer laptop. Been installing all my HA applications.

RP2 installed seamlessly and all good. However I am struggling with ELKRM and the correct .NET or .NET(s) that need to be installed for ELKRM to work.

I have downloaded .NET 2 and SP1 version, x86 version and x64 version none want to install on my 64 bit Windows 7 system.

I have not tried the new .NET 4 yet as it is nearly a gig download and would like to be a bit more scientific about the issue rather than just keep downloading every version of dotnetfx and seeing if it will install.

Anyone help with what version(s) of .NET needs to be installed so I can run the ELKRM version on a 64 bit Windows 7 OS.

I can verify that my systems has the following .NET versions installed

.NET Framework 2.0 SP2
.NET Framework 3.0 SP2
.NET Framework 3.51 SP1

The version of Windows 7 is 64 bit.

Note that I am referring to ELKRM and not ELKRMS version....I prefer ELKRM.

Hope someone can assist with what exactly I need to do to get this going.

As a follow up I loaded ELKRMS and it works no problems. Windows 7 won't look at ELKRM is it meant too?

ELK is no longer supporting ELKRM. I do like the layout of ELKRM better as well, hopefully they will release an ELKRM skin someday. I am guessing it's choking on the 64bit part, but I don't have any Windows 7 32 bit machines so I can test this theory.

Give me the old RM. The RMS in my oppinion is a step backwards. I just discovered there is no music management in the Audio section. We used this all the time....still have the old RM in our TS-07 and on my wifes lappy. I wish the old RM would load on my Windows 7 :(

Some Feedback.

I was unable to get ELKRM orginally to work on my Windows 7 64 bit system. So I installed RMS which I still believe is a step backwards. Anyway I have gradually been getting my head around Windows 7 having been an XP user for probably 7-8 years. I discovered the compatibility tools in W7 and finally got a result with RM and the RM setup utility.

I have been able to get ELKRM and the RM setup utility working fine on my system and want to share with others what I had to do. Firstly if ELKRMS is on the system uninstall it. Install ELKRM and RM setup utility.

Now right click the ELKRM program select Properties > Compatibility the check:

Run this program in compatibility mode. Then select the previous OS and service pack that ELKRM worked OK on.

Then under Settings check:
Run in 256 colours
Run in 640X480 screen resolution

Then under Priviledges Level check:
Run this program as an administrator

Follow the same steps for the RM setup utility and viola.
