Wireless Keybus or Wireless IO

Well, I seem to have hit a wall on my most recent project! I'm installing an alarm system spanning 3 different buildings in the same yard. Two of the buildings have cable buried between them, but unfortunately the 3rd one does not! In the building without cable, I have 6 sensors in place. Special devices that all have NC relay outputs. Now, the question is how to connect to the main system.

I was hoping to find a pair of wireless IO boxes, but seemed to have no luck. The Linear DXSR-1508 receiver looks perfect, but if only there was a transmitter just like it. My other thought was to somehow wireless extend the keybus of the system to the other building, and then use a Zone expander. I haven't decided which system to go with yet (Likely an Ademco, or Paradox).

Does anyone have ideas on how this can be accomplished, or some other devices that may work?

Without knowing more about your choice of hardware I would say maybe you could "hack" apart some of these

Then use a GE Cadex receiver connected to your alarm panel to receive the signals.

Another question: Is this a personal or professional install? (Just not sure if you are willing to use a hacked solution on a professional install without cleaning it up a bit :) )

Yes, it needs to be a professional install. That's a good idea though. I just found a similar product from Visonic. [post="0"]2 Zone Transmitter.[/post] Four of these would work with one of their receivers plus an expansion unit. I'd like to avoid this route due to batteries though. Ideally I need one transmitter that is fixed.

It's too bad Linear doesn't make an 8 Channel transmitter to match their DXSR-1508 receiver....

Welcome to CT!

Does the zone expander rely on RS-485? If so, I believe Digi offers wireless RS-485 bridges/modems.

That's the big question Dan! I'm not sure if I'll install an Ademco or a Paradox system yet.

Both use a 4 wire Keybus, with only 2 wires for communications. I can only assume that it's probably a proprietary variation of RS485 or a similar protocol.

I might just have to bite the bullet and buy a set of wireless modems to experiment with!
