wireless receiver sucking lately

I have the wireless receiver. It worked great for a year or so, but for the past year, it's had a very short range. I have some wireless sensors, and wireless keyfobs. I used to be able to open my garage from nearly 300 feet away, but now, it's 30 feet or less. It also does not always pick up signals from some of my wireless sensors reliably.

Any thoughts? Has someone had one go bad? I'm using all 4 antennas, and nothing has changed with the unit since I originally installed it.

Has anything changed in your overall premise wireless infrastructure? New WiFi base stations or wireless devices being used near your receiver or sensors?

Case in point: I added a wifi base station (Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n @ 5ghz) to a room directly above the garage to extend coverage in that part of the house. Over some time I started to notice that my garage door openers were less responsive to the transmitter fob, and especially to those homelink buttons on the rearview mirror of the cars. I tried resetting/reprogramming and adjusting the pigtail antenna on the opener with no luck. I finally searched for a FAQ by the manufacturer of the door opener and discovered there are instances where things (such as wifi, microwave, cordless phones, etc) may interfere with the opener, even though such devices are supposed to operate on different wireless frequencies. I unplugged the wifi base station, and that seemed to cure the problem.

In your case, there may be some interference issue that was introduced to your setup. Only way to find out is to troubleshoot by turning off every wireless device and checking performance as you restore service to those devices one by one. Of course, you want to check your batteries too. ;)
