(I hope I am posting this in the right section. I did look up if a previous topic existed, but was unable to find any)
I am new here and about to start rebuilding the house. very literally, the complete front part is going to be taken down and rebuilt - a cellar is going to be installed.
time to think about wiring then. I am grateful for this 5 star starter document Wiring your home 101. The few pages there give a whole lot more practical information than the 400+ page book "Smart Homes for Dummies" (should have known  )
I read through all three. Document three is very hands-on and proposes the wires to install in each room and their functions.
e.g. for master bedroom the document mentions this:
Security keypad – Cat-5E, Firewire
Touch screen – Cat-5E, electrical power
Speakers, whole house sound – 16/4 or 14/4 or 18/2, depending on music system and configuration
Microphone – Shielded microphone cable
IR – Cat-5E or Station wire
Video – RG6QS, multiple drops
Telephone – Cat-5E, multiple drops
Network – Cat-5E, multiple drops
Motion detector – Station wire
Smoke detector - Firewire
CO Detector – Station wire or Firewire
Window contacts – Station wire
There are 5 uses linked to Cat-5E cabling - I suppose it does mean that running 1 Cat-5E cable to the master bedroom is sufficient... or am I incorrectly assuming that?
Is it the same for Station wire (mentioned 3 times)? And what does "multiple drops" mean?
