If I ever get the chance to pre-wire (during construction), I'll include the EOL resistors - most likely just using contact sensors that have appropriate EOL resistors built in (no combining zones with these though!) - that way it's still one piece.
cornutt - you can even get normal concealed/flush-mount sensors with screw terminals... they're pretty compact...
I can bet the reason you never see EOL in a residential install is that the clowns who install 99% of your residential systems are out to get in and out as quickly as humanly possible - and none of them are about to solder and heat-shrink wires... It'd be a different story if you were spending thousands on a custom install.
There are custom made contacts that have the ELK 2.2k resistors built in to them. We stock the recessed contacts and can order in surface mount contacts (I believe it is a 2-3 week lead time on them).
Lots of us pros also get contacts where you can mount EOLR's in/behind them, IE: surface contacts like the PAL-T's and appropriate 3/4" recessed contacts.
