WS4777 As 2-Way Switch

Hello,

I have an extra WS4777 that I don't have a 3 way switch for, so I figured I'd just use the master as a normal switch. I wired it up and capped the traveler. The light now works as expected manually, but it doesn't respond to on/off messages over my network.

Am I doing something I shouldn't be doing here? Is there some reason that this wouldn't work, or should it be find and I should be looking for signal noise or something?

Thanks in advance.

Did you verify the address dials are set correctly?
If it has been in storage you may want to rotate the House and Unit dials a few times. In case they are making a poor connection.
Is yours new enough to have soft start? Where they ramp on and off in around two seconds?

Hi, thanks for the response. The dials are indeed set correctly (and just for good measure, I sent all on for all house codes anyway). And, yes, they are soft start.

I haven't tried rotating the dials around -- I'll give that a whirl and report back if it fixes the issue.

The 477 master should work as BLH inferred, but only with incandescent bulbs, not CFLs or LEDs. Also if you were using an incandescent bulb and it does not work you could have a noise problem (which you appearenly have knowledge of ) or a phase coupling problem. As a last resort try swaping the black and blue wire couplings. The black wire from the switch should go to the "hot" lead in the wall box, and the blue wire should go to the load.

The bulbs in question are all incandescent (it's a chandelier) and I did once have it hooked up with WS467, so I know that the lighting scheme is compatible, and the manual does work. If the master 477 can be an effective standin for 467, then I'll turn my attentions to troubleshooting with the assumption that I have a signal noise problem. Luckily, I have an extra unused filter lying around for when I find the guilty party. ^_^

If I can't seem to find a source of noise, I'll give switching the wires a shot as well - that makes sense.

Thanks for the feedback. Good to know I'm not trying to use 477 master in a way that fundamentally wouldn't work.
