XP network connection

Hello all,
I normally allow Homeseer to run untouched (on another box) for the most part, but sometimes I need to access it for an update or what ever. If I don't use my network connection to it for a while , I find I have to run the "Network Wizard" to re establish a connection to it.
I guess I just need to know, does XP delete a connection after a certain amount of time if that network connection is unused for a certain amount of time??? And if so, can something be done to keep it from disappearing after a few days of non-use??

Thanks, Rick

Hmm... Are you using DHCP to assign the IP address to your XP box? Addresses assigned via DHCP usually have a limited lifetime BUT normally they are renewed by the DHCP server and you don't have to worry about them. Other then that I don't know of any thing that would cause XP to discard the connection information.

Did you have XP SP3 installed recently? Just curious as things change in my 'My Network Places'. The 'My Lighting' [ISY-26] and 'D-LINK Router' Icons may or may not show up. A refresh then shows both but in maybe 30-60 seconds one and then the other vanish again.

Don't know about the DHCP thing...what ever xp uses when you set up a network with the "Network Wizard". And no changes within XP itself,no SP3.
I may have found that my fire wall *may* have been doing it. I have gone back to the stock Windows firewall and everything has been fine so far. We'll see...........

Sounds like you got it with the firewall thing - but another bit to look at is the power saving feature - make sure the NIC can't be turned off to save power?
