From what I read on the ISY board they are behind on the Insteon Roadmap (dealing with various issues) which has delayed allocating resources to a new platform. I also see from reading here that there are challenges around some Z-Wave switches reporting their status when operated manually (something about a patent dispute?) I wonder if this has reduced the potential value of developing products around that platform? It certainly would give me pause before looking to switch to Z-Wave since triggering real-time automation events off of light switch key presses is a major part of my automation set up.
Thanks USM. I was afraid it was something like that. The WAF is SO much higher with my Vizia RF+ switches that I'm going to go ahead and make the change. I'll just use my M1G/CQC combo to control the zwave devices.
There's a great true story about a patent fight killing an industry. The home automation suits ought to learn about it before they make a serious mistake. Uncertainty about the future of the technology can't be good for them. While I'm sure that Leviton wants to maintain their competitive advantage, they'd be wise to license the IP for a very reasonable amount if they want their investment in the zwave world to be worth anything five years from now.
