    Elk M1 away arming issue

After you armed it in away mode, did you open and close one of your delay zones like the door? The Elk will revert to Stay mode if it thinks you didn't leave.

Smoke / fire / heat detector recomendations

Fire alarm sounders are to emit a "3 pulse temporal pattern evacuation tone" when activated. It sounds like "beep, beep, beep, pause, beep, beep, beep, pause".

Hard Wiring a Optex iVision video door intercom

As long as the voltage is in the correct range of 8-16 volts it will power the unit fine. Unfortunately it will not ring the existing door chime.

    Beginner Home Security Endeavor

Yes, you do need an alphanumeric keypad to program such as the 6160. With a lot of companies the tech just has a 6160 with him to program systems or they are pre-programmed at the shop or they use the dial up software.

    Elk M1G - Telular TG-1b or TG-1 Express

The TG-1B is their older model that has it's own power supply transformer and back up battery. The TG-1 Express is the latest model that is smaller, and uses the panels power and backup battery to power itself. It is also designed to use Cat-5E cable to run it's power and phone capture from...

    The U-Socket is Here

I have to agree with Dan, with the costs of getting a product like this to market, it is not such an unreasonable price. Frankly, with how useful the product would be for me I didn't see any problem with the price at all!

    long runs 22/4

Both the Honeywell Vista and GE Concord manuals state the 22/4 is OK up to 1000' for sensors but for keypads GE says 300' and Honeywell says 450'. I don't know what panels you are using but my guess is that 22/4 would be OK.

    Motion Decector False Alarms

Just about any of the top panels, (GE Concord, Honeywell, Elk, DSC) have the cross zoning feature. It can be a pretty handy tool to stop false alarms.

Are you interested in dome or bullet style cameras? Are you interested in cameras with IR or with very low light capability?

Glass Breaks with Curtains and Other ?s

Heavy curtains are a big problem in regards to acoustic glass break detectors. If you don't have a clear path from window to detector you run a big risk of not detecting the broken glass. 1. I know that Flexguard and GE both have a small round detector (hard wired) that can be mounted in a...

    RCR-PET Motion Detectors

The Wife Approval Factor can be tough to work around! LOL! The PI6000 is smaller and most likely performs well but all in all, IMHO the dual tec motion is always the most reliable. As I have said before I have used a lot of the RCR-PET detectors and they are still my first choice.

    360 Motions and Cats??

I have found that cats can be the hardest to deal with when it comes to motion detectors. I don't know the specific model he uses but I don't think they are pet immune. Dual tech motion detectors are not necessarily pet immune, even though they are likely to be less susceptible to falsing from...

    Door Roller Contact Reliability

I have used the GRI roller ball, plunger and push button switches for years and I very rarely have a problem.
