Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I didn't realize they had any with multiple relays in the same box. And good point about Graingers. That was just a name I was familiar with, but a little Google searching turned up some MUCH lower prices. I was surprised at the difference.
 Funny stuff!
I'm normally not the one to go with the simple solution if there's a more complicated and more expensive alternative. Unfortunately, budget dictates I go with the boring...... um..... cost effective.... route this time.
That's a good point. I'd assumed it was 24 VDC, but you are correct. Fortunately, that relay will accept 10-30 VDC, 10-30 VAC, or 120 VAC. I'd rather be lucky than good any day :)
I'm not sure how many of you guys frequent AVS as well, but hopefully posting this question on both forums isn't an internet posting foul. It occurred to me this morning that this was more of a home automation question than a theater question.
I would like to wire up my room exhaust fan to...
Thanks for the replies everyone! Looks like I've got boxes that range from just under 3" for single gang boxes to 3.5" for multi-gang boxes. So it looks like I'm good!
It's been recommended on several occasions that putting in "deep" boxes is a good idea when building to make it easier to install automated switches later. What depth box does everyone have in mind with that statement? Is 3" enough, or should it be 3-1/2"?
Thanks!
The electrical is almost done in my house, and I wanted to double check that they actually installed the "deep" wall boxes. However, I'm not really sure what size they should be. Some of the larger 3 and 4 gang boxes are 3-1/2" deep. The single gang boxes look like they are all 3" deep, I...
Thanks for the feedback!
I should have specified that I'm looking for an IP camera. I was leaning towards and IP camera as it would be much easier to setup a remote viewing webpage so I could use it as a nanny cam when we have a babysitter. I'm really not paranoid except where my kid is...
Can anyone recommend a good wired camera that I could use for a baby monitor? I'd like a day/night camera with audio, and I'd like to keep the cost under $200. My house is currently under construction, so I planned to run a CAT6 and an 18/2 to each place I want a camera.
Having never looked at...
Can anyone recommend a good place to get Lutron Pink, Red, and Yellow wire? I've searched for it, and the prices seem to vary quite a bit, but I'm hesitant to use an online retailer I'm not familiar with.
I don't know that I agree with this completely. Our builder only does custom homes and he's mentioned on several occasions that he regularly has clients that want to do some part of the build whether it's because they know someone that does electrical, or because they have some part of the house...
Gotcha! So X10, Insteon, Z-wave, and UPB would require no additional control wiring. Only ALC would require CAT 5 to each switch.
Also, After reading more and posting a question over at AVS I now understand that Homeworks is decidedly not DIY. So I'll be marking that off the list of possible...
I thought X10 and Insteon are wireless solutions? I'd like to prewire for any wired solutions I might consider that don't require home runs of the HV wiring.
So it looks like my options for wired automated lighting that use standard wiring practices are UPB, ALC, and possibly the Lutron Maestro line (I'm still trying to decipher exactly what's required for these products). It looks like ALC would require a Cat5 to each switch, the lutron option would...
