    LinuxMCE vs. OpenHAB

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but have you looked at JRiver Media Centre?   Essentially, I'll be running one thumping server with multiple HDMI outputs (over Ethernet) to three TV locations, and then an Echo Audio Fire with 12 channel outputs to play stereo audio to six locations. All...

Wiring in the panel and cable jackets

Thanks guys for the leads and advice. Sorry I hadn't responded sooner, as I've had my head in the panel on and off over the last two days. Its definitely working well, and I've now made significant progress. I'm really appreciative of the tips!   One thing I stuffed up was that I didn't realise...

Wiring in the panel and cable jackets

Hi All,   I'm into wiring my second panel of three in the house. The first panel has the M1, XEP, CBUS, TWA, surge protector, battery, and then space for service loops for the wiring. Given that there is not that may cables in there, I could get away with leaving the cable jacket on the cables...

    What is wrong with CQC?

Hi Dean,   Just in case you hadn't seen them, Microsoft have now published the Windows 10 UI/UX guidelines.     Launch page is found at https://dev.windows.com/en-us/design and a contents style list of guidelines can be found at https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/apps/hh465424.aspx   And...

    20150812 20. CAN1 rearranged

Totally re-arranged the layout of the main CAN to try and take account for double duty as service loops as well.

    New version of Elkrp2 2.0.24

Has anyone done a wireshark/fiddler trace to check WHY an SSL connection takes so much longer? Technically, it should not really introduce a great deal of latency.

TWA and microphone input polarity on ELK-M1WS

Yep, unfortunately when I did all the wiring runs these three were the last ones and I just got completely mixed up on the page regarding the type of cable to use. At first I was going to just forget about it since they shouldn't be used anyway. However, its working perfectly now - so yes - I...

TWA and microphone input polarity on ELK-M1WS

I have shielded cable installed, though the cable is RG6 quad shielded, not twisted pair. For some reason when I had three of these runs put in for the microphones it was in RG6Q. However, as I stated, as long as its connected the "right" way, it works perfectly with no noise on the line at all...

TWA and microphone input polarity on ELK-M1WS

Hi All,   I was playing around with a TWA and speaker/microphone M1WS connections on the weekend. What I noticed was that if you had the microphone inputs hooked up one way, I would get a buzz on the phone line whenever I used telephone remote control of the M1 panel. If I reversed the...
  10. 20150219 19. CAN2 slowly taking shape

    20150219 19. CAN2 slowly taking shape

I got the DBH runs setup, and need to hook them up to the XINs and XOVR in this panel. Then I'll install the battery and power supply, PDH and terminal blocks for powered peripherals and work through all the wire routes in here.
  11. 20150219 18. CAN3 Needs final positioning door And trim

20150219 18. CAN3 Needs final positioning door And trim

Pulling out the cabling reveals the can still needs to be adjusted, screwed in place, door and trim to neaten it up. I need to get battery, power supply, three XINs, one XOVR, a DBH and a run off to a keypad. I think if space is a premium the DBH wont make it in this one. We'll have to wait and...

    20150219 17. CAN3 Getting ready

I decided to go and check the third can I have to fitoff. My design called for this remote panel to cut down the amount of home wired runs.
  13. 20150218 16. CAN2 Component installation begins

    20150218 16. CAN2 Component installation begins

After my frustrations with the surge suppressor, I turned to CAN2. Another jigsaw puzzle. Where to mount the DBH vs where to mount the input boards vs how to route the large amount of cable and handle all the power needs for this CAN (motions, glass breaks, etc). This is the layout I settled on...
  14. 20150218 15. CAN1 surge suppressor hookup

    20150218 15. CAN1 surge suppressor hookup

So the one piece I didn't have the datasheet for, and my training course didn't seem to cover was the surge suppressor. Specifically the cabling from the 8PC modular connector J1 to the M1 phone terminals. I could work out ring (pin 4) and tip (pin 5) easily enough, but I wasn't sure which pair...
  15. 20150215 14. CAN1 Component installation started

    20150215 14. CAN1 Component installation started

So started the M1 installation into the 28 inch can, along with the XEP, TWA, CBUS, surge and battery. Unfortunately the cabling has to be looped in the panel along the bottom and sides as there is no space in the wall cavity to have cable loops for any future changes/maintenance, which means...
