1-wire ideas?

Well now that I have my 1-wire network up and running I thought I would start a thread to gather ideas as to what people are using their 1-wire for. I myself have several temperature sensors right now. So if you have any unique uses for the counter chip, I/O or others lets hear from you.

  • Rainfall counter tied into my sprinkler system to disable it if its raining
  • Temperature sensors in every room, the attic, outside (x2) and in the garage
  • Relay output to turn on low voltage landscape lighting and in the stairwell
  • Voltage monitoring of the alarm system panel
  • Wind Speed and direction
  • Humidity inside and out, as well as in the bathroom
  • Pressure sensors

Good luck with your setup. I've had a lot of fun with it over the years.

I control my upstairs electric baseboard heaters via a 1-wire hobby-boards 4 channel relay board. It is a very effective way to set-back electric heaters.

I have numerous house sensors, plus barometer and rain gauge and more than a dozen as part of my ground-source cooling system.

So many gadgets so little time... ;-)

I would be interested in hearing what people are using the dual-counter sensor for.

I used one to rework my rain-gauge when the wireless transmitter board in it died. Works a treat and onewire means no more batteries failing due to old age or low temperatures. I have no issues with cabling due to its location.
