5V low current relay

I had a trigger added to one of my pre amps so I could use it to power on other equipnemtn through a relay. The troubel is the relay I bought 70ma draw is to much for the trigger. I guess the manafacture tapped of a display circut or something. I want to sense this unit is on and since it is a high end piece of equipnment with all silver power cords etc something like a current sencing device the power cord pluggs into is out. So how do I get a really low current 5 v trigger relay to trigger a bigger one relay connected to a 12 v wall wart, the end game is to power a 12v trigger to turn the amps on.

Look for a reed relay as they have much lower current draw. Alternatively, some SSR's are very low as well, but more expensive. You could also build a small circuit using a darlington transistor that would be ultra low current.

- Trigger Voltage: 5 - 24 Volts D.C.
- Trigger Current: 1.2mA @12 VDC.

Will such work?

ELK-924 Sensitive Relay. You will need a separate 12V supply to power the relay, but tripping (controlling) it can be done with a 5V 1.2mA signal.

-- also a small reed relay could work if it will handle your switched load.

Hope this helps.
