I used the terminal type with single core wire and it made assembly a breeze. Also easy to change when necessary.

I used single core with my own install, but have switched to using stranded wire since. I found that I prefer the stranded - I find it to be more flexible.

For commercial applications with a lot of wear/tear I'd go with crimp almost every time. The construction methods are far more conducive to an installation with splices...and in my case I use GRI 6644's by the hundreds.
 
For a residential application you need to plan accordingly. For the majority of doors on an install, 3/4" is the way to go with EOLR's in the field. Windows vary.
