Adding new outbuilding to current Elk M1

I have just built a new outbuilding at my residence and would like to add alarm protection as well as some automation to the building. What do I need to buy for the panel in the building? What cable should I pull between the house and the building? Will I need sometype of power supply in the building at the panel?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

So you have the main M1 in the residence and want to run the outbuilding off that, correct? Sure, as long as you can get wire to the outbuilding that is very doable. You can set the outbuilding as a second area so it can be controlled (armed/disarmed, etc) separately. There are a few things you can do depending on how much stuff you will have in the outbuilding. You probably want at least a keypad and a few sensors. Depending on the amt of sensors, etc, you may want to put a regular 14" can with a few Cat5's to it. In the can you can put a M1DBH hub and some input/output expanders (depending on what you need). You can hook the hub back to the main unit with 1 22/4 or Cat5 and branch all the outbuilding stuff from that can. You may also want power out there again depending on what sensors, smokes, etc?

Ok thanks thats the kind of info I was looking for. When you say "power out there" will there be some type of power supply in the 14" can or do you mean power in general for the building?. I have power in the building. Does the 14" panel get power from the M1 in the house???

Again, that depends on how much or what you want. It depends what you do with the wires. If you will have smokes out there, you probably want them on the SAux power so they can be reset, etc. That would require you running a wire for SAux to the outbuilding and hooking your remote smokes to that. For just a few sensors like PIRs or GBs you can do the same with VAux, or you could just put a separate supply out there to power all your devices. I am talking all 12V stuff, not commercial power.
