Just an FYI, but I found the GE Caddx programming to be not for the faint of heart (I've said this here many times on CT). Not impossible mind you, but I know there have been more than one "holy cow" statements when DIY types first open that manual! ;)

I have to second exactly what BSR stated. I have the GE Caddx. AND the DL900 software was about 5-10% non-intuitive. It only takes one "stumper" and you are spinning your wheels and scratching your head. AND I had many of those moments as a newbie DIYer. Do-able, but I heard there are easier ways. Mine came with the house.

I had a Caddx NX8 V2 panel that I recently removed and replaced with a new ELK M1G. Amazingly my Caddx N8 paid for the Elk. I'd carefully kept all the materials along with the programming info, which is important and then sold it on ebay. Before I purchased the Elk, I made sure all the purchasers where happy (so I wouldn't have to worry about returns).

It's amazing what each part would go for individually (the NX-216E expander, the NX-8V2 panel, the NX-148E keypads and other assorted odds and ends).

The main reason for the switch is to allow the use of lighting control that is not limited to X-10. For reliability and consistant WAF, I want the lighting to be completely controlled by the Elk. Adding CCTV and Whole House audio can also be performed without going with an HA computer via the Elk T07 for example. Amazing how expandable the system can be with time and money ;)
