I bought a CHEAP Android tablet v1.5 and tested the mini-browser on it. Major trouble in River City! Renders the first 'home' page fine, then everything after that it is near worthless. It doesn't pick up any of the graphics files, the layout, nor does it build the toolbar on each page. Not sure if it the CSS or what. The other bizarre behavior is that when the session is first started, the first session identifies in the MBCurrentObject the home location, which is right. At the same time, it fires off another 8-10 web sessions, all of which are blank for the MBCurrentObject.

Anyone want to buy a now even CHEAPER Android tablet?

BTW, the Windows 7 phone I picked up (the Samsung Focus) does a great job with Premise. I haven't tried the AB on it, but if I do, I'll give an update....

I am wondering whether the issue may be related to some badly structured HTML - as I understand it, Android adheres to a fairly strict HTML standard. If the HTML is bad, then it may not render it. I'll do some checking; my first pass thru the W3C validator wasn't fun.

It still doesn't explain the multi-sessions it kicks off when accessing the site...

Hey, Google! Building an OS isn't that easy, huh?!!!!

My understanding is that 1.5 does a lot of stuff badly. Don't look for the manufacturers to have anything to upgrade past 1.5 but do look on line to see if you can find anything newer. This got better starting with 1.6. I have 2.1 on my Samsung and I have 2.2 on my TouchBook. Android is okay but the TouchBook is not. I'm hoping to get my hands on one of the Android tablets that were mentioned in the last few weeks. We'll see how well that goes.

I'm pretty sure that Google is *not* the main problem here but rather cheap manufacturers.

Edited: Forget one little word and the whole meaning changes (thanks Dan).

I'm assuming you mean that Google is NOT the main problem here? ;)

I would avoid any 1.x devices, they are becoming unsupported by more and more apps. In fact, I would avoid any Android tablets unless it ships with Android 3.0 which has been optimized for tablets. It sucks that Android's openness can be a negative, as it is allowing manufacturers to screw up everything :/ Maybe you can run a remote desktop client on it, and interface your home automation that way, many people do this using various platforms, and are pretty happy with it.

:hesaid: I fixed it so now my response is now correct. I claim to be deprived of sleep.;)

I agree I've tried to stay away from anything without the possibility of getting 2.1 from the manufacturer. There are too many problems and the good stuff didn't start showing up til then.

I'm pretty sure you need android 2.1 or newer to have flash support. This may not be an issue now, but it could be if you ever want to use flash to control Premise ( think a french member uses flash). I would look online for a new ROM (doesn't have to be from the manufacturer) and flash your device. On my phone, I've used several ROMs from outside sources; they usually offer more features usually like free wifi tethering ;)

Agree on all points. To be honest, I didn't notice it was 1.5...I'm surprised I haven't heard more on the problems w/ 1.5. Also, surprised that I hadn't found many remedies, leaving the only real valid advice being wait until the OS becomes stable... Then again, I used Google to look for negative views on Android ;)

Thanks for the inputs - I'll start looking for the latest and greatest....

Have you tried using it as a remote desktop client? This would allow you to run the GUI interface on your Windows machine, so you won't have to worry about the Android version (assuming there is a remote desktop client out there which supports 1.5).

Probably not what you want to hear, but Android is perfectly stable (now). It's only the older versions that have issues. Everything since 2.0 seems to work well on my phone.

PS: Any update on windows phone and the AB? Thanks :)

Yikes! It hasn't become apparent to me whether AB will work on the Windows Phone - I can't find a way to get the sysregister onto it - I'm digging and it seems it may be possible in the future, but unless somebody has some other info, it might just be the MB (thanks 123!)

Any thoughts on this?
