Announcing the j9 Automation Engine v0.8

I'm proud to announce the release of an update to the j9 Automation Engine software. This release introduces the Touch Screen Viewer and Touch Screen Builder applications as well as providing new drivers for multi-room audio and cameras. It is available for immediate download here.

Here is a list of the major enhancements: (A longer, more detailed list can be viewed here.)

Touch Screen Control
View and control your system using completely customizable graphical user interfaces from a standard pc monitor or a touch screen monitor. The included sample touch screen interface provides control for most device types, and the Touch Screen Builder application provides an easy to use platform for creating your own custom touch screen user interfaces.

New Device Drivers
Added a new Nuvo Concerto Driver for controlling multi-room audio, and a Scanner and Camera Driver for taking pictures at timed intervals or on demand.

Scripting Language
Added new TextFileReader and TextFileWriter objects for reading and writing text files, such as plain text, xml, csv, etc.

Installer
Several ease of use and reliability enhancements have been made to the Installer, most notably the Installer can now upgrade from previous versions.

are the touchscreens client-server based or web based?

The touch screens you see above are client-server based, however there is robust web browser support for custom dynamic web pages as well.

The screen shot on the left above is of the Touch Screen Viewer application, while the one on the right is of the Touch Screen Builder application. The Touch Screen Builder application provides an easy to use platform for creating your own custom touch screen user interfaces, and the Touch Screen Viewer application presents the touch screen interfaces and allows user interaction with the automation devices.

A built in web server and completely customizable web site is also included with the installation. So you could potentially create web pages that look just like the touch screen interface above, however for optimal performance it is usually not recommended to have graphically intense web pages. The included web site is mostly text based which is optimal for most mobile phones.
