The Nest has some features that go above and beyond what you currently have. it will automatically learn your schedules, it will keep the fan going after the heating or cooling shuts off to extract as much as it can from the cold coil or the hot heat exchanger, and their website and app provides some good graphing and information that you can use to figure out if any changes are saving you money.
I had a Nest at my old place. Now, I have 2 Ecobees, which are also worth looking at since they dropped the price to compete with the Nest. If you have a Vera, there's a Nest plugin, and an Ecobee plugin. So you can write some advanced logic that wouldn't otherwise be possible.
In short, yes, it's got more capability than what you have. The question is whether or not it's worth spending the moola.
