Aprilaire 8870 Manual

My father-in-law recently purchased a used 8870 to hook up to his M1. Unfortunately, it did not come with an installation manual. Does anyone know where I can get one? I checked their website, but they only had the user manuals.

Let me know how it goes. My damn 8870 is touchy as all hell; it takes running the wires just right, with lots of solid good contact and no forgiveness on any missing strands off the 8811, in order to achieve PC communication (either HyperTerminal or CQC). Matter of fact, it's been down for several months since I put in my distro panel, as I obviously didn't do some stupid tiny little thing right with the wiring and it refuses to talk to a PC.

I am having the same issue and just replace my 8811 to no avail. I've never been able to get it to communicate so I have over $500 invested in non-programmable (but very nice looking) thermos.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to debug these things? I'm wondering if the serial cable that came with the 8811 is bad... should the 8811 respond to AT commands with an OK or anything, even if it can't talk to the thermos?

use hyperterminal - if that doesn't work, nothing will. Connect, then send SN? and it should reply.

WooHoo! That was easy. The 8870 is hooked up, and operating the HVAC system! Now I need to hook up the protocol adapter, and get it connected to the M1.

I don't suppose you would happen to have the protocol adapter install manual?

Ooops, meant to give you the all-in-one manual (8870 & 8811).

Here's that version. I don't have just an 8811, this covers both installs.

Neat. I didn't know about this combined manual.

Attached a copy of the Aprilaire/Enerzone/Statnet ASCII command set manual. Aprilaire purchased Enerzone and based their programmable thermostats on the Enerzone stats. The first Aprilaire stats were rebranded Enerzone and so far, and ABIK, all are compatible with the proviso that a separate power supplies may be needed for the older thermostats.

My notes add that "The Aprilaire command set is based on the STATNET command set for Enerzone thermostats. I was told by Aprilaire technical staff that Aprilaire supports all Enerzone STATNET commands as developed and documented by Research Products Corporation in this document, but that additional commands may be added to support newer products. Attached too is the 8811 protocol adapter manual.

Well, after spending an hour trying to get the Cat5 cable down the wall, I finally got the Aprilaire hooked up to the M1. No problems at all. Just hooked it up, programmed it in Elk RP, Synched the TS07, and everything works. Tested rules, and changing set points from the TS, and it all is fantastic.

Thanks for the manuals! They were a BIG help!

So far I have been unable to find any documention regarding sending text to the LCD of the 8870. It it possible and does anybody have info on it?

Thank you.

Have you tried emailing Aprilaire? I always found them to be quite responsive. I don't have their email handy, I got it at home, but I got it off their website.
