CocoonTech visited with Dakota Alert during CES 2010.  This company, located in South Dakota, make wireless remote motion sensors and vehicle sensors which caught my eye as it will interest a lot of our forum members.

The first product shown was a wireless vehicle detector, the WPS-3000.  The sensor looked like a typical sensor, that is designed to be in the ground along a driveway, but on the end of the included direct burial 50 ft cable was a transmitter box that operates on a single nine volt battery.

Upon detection of a vehicle this box will send a signal to a receiver box (shown below).  The range is 600 ft (depending on terrain).

This box has the capability of sounding an audible alert, but ALSO you can trigger relay outputs based on the vehicle detection signal (connections shown on the back of the receiver box below)!

Now one can easily interface this system with their home automation hardware!

Dakota Alert also makes an outdoor motion detector, which uses the same scenario above in alerting the receiver unit upon motion detection.  It also operates on a nine volt battery.

Matt, of Dakota Alert stated that if the above systems were triggered 20 times a day, the nine volt battery would last nine months!

Another exciting line that Dakota Alert plans on incorporating with the above products is their MURS (Mulit-Use Radio Service) long range system, which will use an FCC approved radio and enable remote ranges of several miles.

They also have a small remote camera with nighttime capability, that can send an image via a GSM cellular SIM card upon detection of motion.

Since Dakota Alert is also the manufacturer, they can also provide custom units as well (in larger quantities).
