[CES 2011] Exclusive Update - HomeSeer Technologies

CocoonTech stopped by the HomeSeer booth to see their new products showcased at CES 2011! It's always a pleasure speaking with the HomeSeer staff and CocoonTech was treated to a special interview with Rich Helmke, the company's owner!

The big news for HomeSeer, as previously posted on CocoonTech, is their announcement of the new HomeTroller! This new unit was photograhed next to a computer mouse so you can see just how small this device is!

Rich said the device will retail for $300 and is Linux based (runs Mono on top of Linux). It will include a flavor of the new HomeSeer HS3 (or just HS3 for short) which is a .net application running in Linux. HS3 will first be released with this new HomeTroller.

The device can be managed via their new web interface. It will also include a version of a new HSTouch Lite, which is a simpler version of the current HSTouch and will include already designed screen interfaces, so a user can quickly get up and running and not have to hassle with creating a screen from scratch! For those wanting more customization, a "Pro" version of HSTouch can be provided and will include a development kit for users to create custom displays. This can also be run on an iPad and Android interfaced mobile devices!

The device has a USB interface and can be used with a standard USB expansion port hardware. Other interfaces that need to be worked out (mainly due to the drivers with the Linux operating system) are serial to USB interfaces and also plugins. Again, there will be a development kit available early so developers can get the modifications needed for their plugins.

Below is the Z-Wave interface plugged into the unit's USB port. You can remotely add your Z-Wave devices, then just plug the interface into the HomeTroller and they are interfaced with your setup! This ZWave interface will come provided with the HomeTroller.

HomeSeer was also showing some HSTouch designed screens that will work with the iPad and Android mobile devices as shown below.
