Automated Water Valve Options

Well, I went with Brian's advice, and purchased a valve from Assured Automation. It looks like the same quality ball valve as the Elk; very well built. I would suggest that if anyone needs an automated valve, to go with the Elk if they can use 1", as the AA valve was considerably more expensive.

The plumber got it installed under the house a couple of days ago. He did a great job of leaving plenty of room for me to access it when I wire.

I still find it hard to believe that the .25 inch difference will be noticable at normal water usage. Sure, if you turn on every one of your many fixtures you may notice a difference but really...

One thing to note is that the watercop is AC powered so if you have a power outage you wouldn't be able to close the valve. I assume that in the other valves situation you would be using the backup battery for closing the valve from the HA system. I would think the AC version has better torque but its just a gut assumption. I didn't check specs, did anyone?

Also if it's depending on the backup battery how much do you think it would hurt its capacity?

Did you go with the 12v DC model or the 110v AC model? Which would people recommend?

I just had to search ebay for "automated valve". The search found a used, stainless steel unit for 14.95. The seller does not know where the unit came from. Refinery? Chemical factory? Nuclear power plant? A used valve's provenance might be a factor when used for one's drinking water ... so I passed. But, hey, someone else may not be so picky.
