Axis video server remote access

Hi,

Once again, I am having trouble getting Axis equipment to work on my network. What I have is a Netgear WRN3500 router. I have had this working in the past, but with hours of trying to get it going. I have an older Axis 2400 video server and newer Axis 216FD cameras. I just can't seem to get them going. If I run the axis utility, I can assign an IP with no problem. After that, Sometimes I can access the device but most times I cannot and have to keep repeating the process many times with different IP's. When I can't access the devices, I can ping them and get a reply. If I power them down and ping them again, I get no reply as expected. The few times I have gotten a device to work, I gave it a port number and port forwarded my router. I then try to test from my iPhone with no connection. If I go to my routers log, I can see my iPhone's attempt to access the router.
I have Ekey on my phone and I am port forwarded for my M1 and that works perfect. Does anybody have any suggestions?? I'm getting very frustrated :nutz: I spent 7 hours on Sunday and many hours last week with no success :angry2: .

Like I said, this was working fine for quite a long time with the only change to everything was a reset to the router. Any suggestions would be helpful. Is the router I have just not a good router? I can get a new one no problem, if so, what would be the best one?

Here is what I have connected(network components)in my network.

1. Cable Router
2. Netgear WRN3500
3. Netgear GS108T 8 Port Switch
4. Linksys WAP54G Access Point

Thanks for any advice,

Mike

Are you assigning the cameras static IP's on the network or using DHCP? Firewall?

By port forward, are you forwarding the IP into the DMZ so the streams pass-thru or something completely different?

I'm guessing you're going Modem-router-switch-WAP?

Are you pinging on the same nework intranet or via the external internet?

Hi, The cameras have static ips on my network. I am doing a straight forward port forwarding, external ip:port port forwarded to internal ip. I have set it up as modem to router(hardwire to camera). Down to testing one device now, so no switch involved(but there is a Netgear switch sitting next to the router). I have no problem or never have with remote access with my M1. that is was has me puzzled. Like I said I have had this working for quite a long time with no problems, Wife reset the router, Bam Gone. I have entered the same exact forwarding as before and no luck. This has happened before, after several hours of testing different ports, it works! Until a reset, this time I just can't seem to get it going. I'm very fustrated, having closed on a second home last week to come home to finding there was a party while we were away and the entire time having no way except for my M1 zone status to see if there were people in the house(M1 did not work so well, Guess I looked at the open zones at the wrong time) :angry2: Now having a second home, I need my remote eyes :D

Any suggestions would be great, as we will be away doing some work on the new home this weekend leaving two collage boys home to watch the house(this is there last weekend to make some money, they are NYS Lifeguards).

Thanks,

MIke

I'm no network wizard - I'm trying to learn myself, but since you're down to testing 1 camera from the router, try turning the router DHCP off, and remove the WAP. Use store-bought jumper cables. After setting up, look at the router's DHCP tables.

Try a temporary USB camera for this weekend, if you can't get the Axis cameras going.

Or, put the boys in a Motel 6 for the weekend, lock them out.

Mike:

Send me a PM with your phone number and time to call (I'm on Pacific Time) and I'll try logging on to your computer via NetMeeting and see if I can help as I have experience with a lot of Axis products.

If I had the time, I'd sit down, we've got multiple enterprise level (200+ cameras each) installs with Axis cameras, encoders and decoders, not too much to them.
