Battery required with OPII?

Was planing on using an UPS to power a couple important items anyway. If I power the OPII from my UPS and don't use a 12V battery will the OPII work, complain, just need a setting to make it happy? I'd rather not have to service two sets of batteries.

Thanks.

I keep the standard small storage battery inside. It'll work the OmniTouch screens / Keypads for hours. I've only replaced one battery now in about 7 years or so. You can get the status of the battery with PCA. So its really not a service issue and by default it comes with a battery.

The OmniPro should not be on the UPS even if you have one. It makes more sense to run it off its own battery, this way it will know when the AC Power has failed and perhaps this can be useful to trigger other things as well as notify you, etc.

If you still prefer not to have a battery: Maybe the battery requirement can be satisfied by connecting the battery inputs to a 12V output on the OPII? Just a guess though, haven't tested it YMMV and be careful not to cause it to die :) I would check with HAI first before trying this.

The Omni charges the battery and monitors its state.
I think it might cause weird things (just a guess) hooking up the charging battery circuit to the 12V output circuit.
