Can't enter programmer mode dsc pc1616

I installed and programmed this system many years ago and wanted to make a change.

I hit *8 but instead of allowing me to enter the installers code, it gives me a long tone as if I did something invalid.

Perhaps something has been set to lock out the installer function, but I don't recall doing that and can't find anything in the manual.  I assume this is something simple but just can't find it.   Anyone know?

I am doing this with the system in the non-armed state with the green ready light on.

Figured it out.

Somehow, partition 2 was armed?  I don't understand how.  I never created a partition 2 and there are no keypads set to control partition 2.  I had to "loan" a keypad two partition 2 by pushing and holding the pound key until it beeped, then pushing and holding the 2 key until it beeped.  Then the keypad showed it was armed.  I disarmed with the master code and set the keypad back to partition 1.  Now *8 works.

EDIT:  Man how we forget things.  I did have a tenant at one time and had a second partition for them that I installed.  Totally forgot.

I'm trying to keep my system VERY simple for just that reason.  I'm forgetting a lot of things lately and wonder what it'll be like if I need to work on the Elk five or ten years down the road.

Oh Yeah, For Sure.  I've got the Elk at home and basic DSC at the office.  When I'm doing this stuff, it seems so obvious and logical and I think "I'll remember how I did this".  Then later, nope!

The best way I've found is to... Document, Document, and Document!!!

There is no way that I remember how something was installed or programmed months later - particularly with things that have been installed at a friend's or family member's house.

Yes, I know.  I have gotten way better at that when I write programs and scripts.  I probably over document on that now.  I need to develop a system for doing it on hardware installs as well.
