Computer, iPhone, music by the pool question

Hi,

Here is my situation, I have a couple of speakers mounted on the far side of my pool(Awsum sound even with a 400' cable run). I am looking for the best way to control my stereo from the pool area. Last year I ran a temp. wire and used Xantech. It worked ok. Over the winter, I started storing music in itunes on my pc. I have an iPhone that controls plenty now, So I am thinking of using that to connect to my pc and control the music. I figure I can take the audio out of the pc and run it into my amp and use software on my pc to control the music selection and volume. Then install software on my iPhone to control the pc via my wlan. Does this make any sense ;) As a test I tried VNC, way to slow. Anybody have any sugestions on what direction I should start with this. I have plenty of spare room in my conduits to the pool area, So installing Xantach is not out of the question(how would I control my pc then?)

Thanks,

Mike

Have you checked out the iPhone applications? Surely someone has created a program to do exactly what you are wanting to do - control your iTune server on your local network from your phone.

EDIT - Here it is.

I have a similar setup as yours and am using an iphone app "Remote". "Remote" is
a freeware and you can just download it free of charge from the App. store.
What it does is to connect to your PC using your local area network via Wi-Fi through itune
to control your music directly (You have to allow sharing in itune for all or specific
list/files). Setup is a snap and takes no longer than 1 minute if you already have them sharing. ;)

I am also using my iphone via soundbridge/itune to control two other sources (in my
Russound system for distribution) via the same PC (which has the mp3) from itune.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,

I was overthinking that way to much. I loaded the app, connected pc to amp....Done. Works great. The neighbors are going to love me even more.

Thanks again,

mike

I was doing that before and had some issues with connectivity between the phone and the PC... seemed to only work if I was only a few feet away. 20ft from the door seemed to be too much, even with great signal. I'm hoping it was an issue with the pc and the phone both being on wireless and the pc (macbook pro rather) was on battery...

Recently converted to JRMC - will soon be trying rivermote - I'm really hoping that's solid.
