Concerto to Grand Concerto - How much?

Hi,
I was thinking of buying a used Concerto (no keypads) unit and upgrade it to a Grand Concerto in the future. But I have no idea how much the upgrade kit is worth. Can anyone give me a figure?
Thanks.

Anyone??? I find it hard to believe nobody here has ever gone that way.

Although this was an option that was available primarily when Nuvo had released the Grand Concerto, I believe it is getting harder and harder to find a source to buy an upgrade kit from. The only place on the web that I can find that has it listed is Here with no price listed. When I called them to inquire, he said it would be around $2200.

For that much money, plus the cost of a concerto, you may as well just buy the Grand Concerto to begin with......

Oh bummer... It looks like it might not be a viable option anymore. I figure it could cost around $800 or $900.

Actually, I have one more suggestion for you, one that I think is going to work for me.

The upgrade kit contains a Grand Concerto MCU board, 6 Wall plates, and a CD containing the Configuration Software. The software is available online, so you can get that free.

The wall plates you could get on Ebay or other such locations for far cheeper than the $500 retail price. (or even the $300 per wall plate in the kit)

Here is the secret: You could order a Grand Concerto MCU Board as a replacement part from any Nuvo Dealer. My local dealer has quoted me $400 (canadian). Add about $150 per wall plate and you are at about 1300 plus the cost of your Concerto. Not too bad compared to the $2000+ cost for a new Ebay Grand Concerto, or $3999 New in Box Retail.

Hopefully this helps.

Oh man, I wish I had thought of that first. Unfortunately, the Concerto is now sold. Better luck next time, I guess. But I wonder if I will not eventually go with a Russound system because it is supported by my M1G, something I don't think Nuvo can boast.

I could be wrong, but I thought both Russound *and* Nuvo were supported by Elk. You should be fine either way. I've been comparing the two quite a bit lately - and am having a hell of a time making up my mind. There are things on paper that sound much better about the nuvo (the musicport, oled displays, ultra-low power consumption during standby) but some with more experience than I have stated that the Russound sounds better (has more power) and is a little easier to work with.

Good luck - please share where you end up - I'm certainly curious!

I'm not sure if both are supported. I'm referring to this page. No mention of Nuvo anywhere. But like Russound's, Nuvo's systems have a serial port, so I assume they could talk to the M1G and be controlled through the touchscreen interface.

When Elk announced support for Russound (in 2007, I think), people asked about Nuvo and Elk replied it might happen down the road. At least, that's what I gleaned from old threads in here. But where are we now? It looks like a Russound system would be easier to manage from the M1G perspective, but it might be a wash with Nuvo. And then again, maybe I should not be basing my decision for whole-home audio on Elk alone.

We're taking big bucks here, and it's not like I'm made of money. I can't really afford to go wrong. Home automation sure is an expensive hobby.

I THINK that ElkRP/XEP/IP232 support Russound, NuVo and one more (can't remember the name) via rules (with all the latest firmwares). But I THINK that ElkRMS only supports Russound.
