Confused on ABN and Phone to Elk M1

I just got my ABN in for Nextalarm monitoring. I am slightly confused...i have no household phones. No wiring for house phones either. Thats why i got the abn. I dont know how to hookup the RJ31X jack. I assume i still have to use that to get the elk to use a phone line, but how do i connect the abn? Could I just cut a phone cord and splice one end into the elk connections and then use the jack into the ABN on the other end?

it looks like

R1-Yellow
T1-Blk
Ring-Red
Tip-Green

this correct?
Wayne is correct. The RJ block is used to have a disconnect point from the house phones. You are not using house phones in this case. Actually all you need is the red to Ring and green to Tip. Hooking up the yellow and black will not hurt but won't do any further good either.

Good Luck

So, the ABN is a device that provides "dial-tone" to the Elk, and sends the Elk's signals over the Internet to NextAlarm?

Yes. It emulates telephone service for the sole purpose of accepting POTS contact ID alarm signals. It translates the contact ID signals into a proprietary IP signal which is then sent over your local network / internet to a proprietary compatible receiver at NextAlarm.
Please note the protocol is "proprietary" and thus not compatible with the open protocol used by the ELK M1EXP. I guess they want to sell ABNs as long as they can.
