Connect CAV66 to CAM66?

I've been installing Russound for a while, but always a single unit (i.e. no more than 6 zones). An old customer called and wants to add a CAV66 to their existing CAM66 install.

Piece of cake, right? Probably, but apparently not for me.

All the zones and sources work great (sound, control, text on the S2's), except for the internal CAM radio when accessed from a zone conected to the CAV.

When I couldn't get it working, I even went back to the manuals and found a similar configuration in the CAM "Sample Configurations" (which I didn't even know existed until I re-read the manual yesterday!) where they have a CAM with an internal radio connected to a CAM without one. Assuming that the CAV is (for the purposes of this) the same as a CAM without an internal radio, I re-did my setup to exactly match the manual suggestions, and still no luck.

Here is how it is currently configured.
CAM6.6 -
Controller Setup Menu: Controller ID = 1
Peripheral Setup Menu: Controller ID = All Controllers
Output/Input Switch = Internal Source Output
RCA cable connected to Source 1

CAV6.6 -
Controller Setup Menu: Controller ID = 2
Source Setup Menu: Basic Setup Procedure:
Source # = 1; Source Name = Tuner;
Command Type = Peripheral
Output/Input Switch = Input
RCA cable connected to Source 1

Again, the other sources (computer, DVD, Tivo) work perfectly, but the radio source on the CAV controller does not have any controls. The volume works, the sound comes out, but the controller doesn't display the radio station or allow for changing of the station.

Any help would be appreciated...

i see you have controller ID's setup so i assume you patched rnet with cat5 no longer than 18". rnet out on the master to in on the secondary.

are you programming from the keypads or from the russound windows software pc powertool?

did you restart the system after assigning the 2nd controller id?

when you do Sinfo how many controllers show up?

did you program the 2nd one before connecting rnet?

you used the internal source output switch with the rca jacks for source 1 on the bottom left side on the back?

Unless you are operating the two units seperately and not as an expanded unit, you still can only have six sources. Adding an additional controller does not give you additional souces, only additional zones. In a normal application, we would have the installer hook up the CAV as the main controller and the CAM as the expansion. Connecting the line out from the Tuner on the CAM to source one on the CAV and then connecting the rest of the sources to the CAV.

I misread the original question -- all 4 sources (internal tuner and 3 additional sources) are attached to the CAM with the inputs Y'd to connect to the CAV inputs as well.

The zones are setup as noted above (5 connected to the CAM and 4 to the CAV)

ASIHome has the right advise here.

If you need to have more than six sources, you'll need to run each controller separately. In this configuration, both would be set for ID #1, and you would NOT connect them with an RNET cable. Each system would work independently and you'd only have access to the sources connected to that specific controller. You can share IR controlled sources across both systems by configuring the source the same way in each controller, connecting it's line-level output to the inputs on each controller and then attaching an IR emitter from the source IR output of each controller to the source gear (the source would have 2 emitters stuck on it). This would allow you to share a single CD player, Cable Box, etc. across both systems and control it from each. There won't be any way to share/control the CAM's integrated tuner from the CAV's keypads with this configuration.

The proper way to do this using only six sources is to follow ASIHome's advice. In general, you'll want to connect all your source's line level outputs into the CAV first and then from it's source outs into the inputs on the CAM. The exception will be the CAM's integrated tuner where it's output will need to be fed up to a source input on the CAV.

Sounds like you're getting there, but just didn't have a full understanding of how things fit together...

Cheers,
Paul

You could also use twin-plug emitters and only have on emiter per source.
