Connecting a second Omnistat thermostat to OP2 panel for testing questions

I am looking to connect a second Omni stat thermostat to the OP2 panel for testing purposes. 
 
It will not be connected to a furnace rather just to the OP2 panel. 
 
Does the thermostat need some form of power supply to enable it. 
 
How do I do this? 
 
I have an extra Elk 24VAC transformer.  Can I use this on connections 1 and 3?
