CREE A19 Bulb

I just spotted a new bulb at Home Depot today and it is only $13.  It is made by Cree (and marketed under their name as well) A19 60w eq 9.5w actual 2700k bulb.  I bought one to take a look.  I was tempted to just buy a bunch because I have never been disappointed by Cree before.  True to form, I am pleased.  Color is great, it dims well, and it very much physically looks like an incandescent.  They also have a 40w version which is even cheaper and a cool white 60w version.  I will be buying a bunch more of these.  It puts a little bit less light out the very top of the bulb than an incandescent, but that is going to be just fine almost all the time.  I suppose in a bare bulb ceiling application where the bulb is pointed straight down it would be less than ideal, but otherwise, typically you want most of light coming out the sides and downward, not upward.

With bulbs like this out there, I think that silly bulb filled with liquid silicone that costs an arm and a leg hasn't a snowballs shot in hell of making it.

I was at Home Depot yesterday and noticed they had a new Cree disk light that works in recessed cans or 4" jbox like the LSG Glimpse lights. I also noticed they were selling the L prize phillips bulbs for $14.97.

I just got two of these to replace halogen bulbs in my exterior porch lights and they're absolutely perfect. My use case, exterior lights that stay on for hours every night, is perfect for these bulbs.
