Couldn't get one of my simple devices to connect via serial over IP (projector screen) although it worked via a direct RS232 connection. Got super-pissed, its a simple device, had a manual wired controller option. Cut it haflway through the length, broke out a multi-meter, figured out which of the 3 wires got connected in which order to raise/lower the screen, and ran it into my Elk.
Sure, its a roundabout way to do this, and requires a dedicated 4wire run, but at least I could get it to work. Learned that tidbit here, so thanks!
