Dish Network DVR api

Is this documented somewhere? I know it exists... I can control my dvr with the dish network app. Why the can't I do the same functionality from my HA system? Be pretty cool to have a native dvr interface within my touch screens. Or maybe this functionality provided through Sling. Then the real question would then be about a Slingbox api. Thanks!

I'm planning on a two hopper five joey system in my new place. It seems to do every thing i want, except one thing. No automation control. Ive asked about this at the dish forum. All control is through their web site only. Dish is famous for their closed systems. Kind of like Apple.

Slingbox integration is simply via an IR emitter placed in front to the Dish DVR. IR codes are publically available. Dont know about any ethernet protocol for Dish, but obvioulsy it exists to support their remote interface.

I have not heard of ethereal... but I may have, or have not, tried it through wireshark. Found the port and was able to pull some services XML files off the unit.

Etherreal and wire shark. Sounds like a great way to go if Dish uses the Ethernet ports for control from their web site. However I THINK they communicate from their head office via the satellite feed.

I need to look into this more. iostream212 please keep me posted on what you find either on this thread or via PM.

Thanks.

Never considered possible satellite control. That could possibly explain the delay from button press to result.
Edit: the app will error out if the dvr is not connected to the local network. the app will tell you to reset the network adapter from the dvr system menu.

Ethereal and Wire Shark are actually the same product... Ethereal was the old name; Wire Shark is the new name.
