Displaying Outdoor Temperature

I just installed a 31A00-7 extended range temperature sensor outside. I have it configured on zone 14 as ER Outdoor Temp. PC Access is showing the correct temp for the sensor on the status page. What I can't figure out is how to have the temp displayed on the console and Omnistat2 thermostats. The two Omnistat2 units are connected with Zigbee if that makes a difference.

I utilize an HAI outdoor sensor and see the temperature outside on the message bar on the top using the setting checkbox for outdoor status.

Is your outdoor status box checked?

What console?

(6) Message Bar: The message bar displays messages that you enable. If more than one message type is enabled, the message bar will display the first message for 4 seconds, and then the next message is displayed. On the advanced display, the available message types are as follows:
 Date and Time  Outdoor Status (outdoor temperature and/or outdoor humidity)  Filter Reminder (time to change the filter)
 Energy Status  Energy Messages

Yes the outdoor status box is checked. The other interesting thing is the time doesn't sync to the thermostats from the controller. I made sure to set the program mode to disabled on both thermostats. It must have to do with connecting them via Zigbee. However I don't see anything in the documentation stating this.

On the consoles they are the LCD keypads 33A00-1. In the OmniPro manual it states the temperature can be optionally shown the consoles. I wasn't sure if this applied to the LCD keypads. My thought was the date / time line would alternate displaying the temp, but that might not be the case.

Temperature won't show on the consoles constantly.
You have to call it up to view it.

The easiest way is 6,3 - Status, Sun

If you don't have the T-stats connected to the controller AB serial network, I doubt the temperature or time will display.
I don't believe they are broadcast over the zigbee net.

Yeah; here only have one keyboard console these days...did check and saw the outside temp via the multiple key presses.

The HAI Omnistat2 I have does show the Zigbee stuff but it has no zigbee radio anyways.

I am curious whether you can utilize the hardwire chase to the furnace for the serial connectivity to the HAI OPII panel.  I used it for mine as its mounted in the middle of the home and the chase goes into the basement then across the basement to one side where the furnace is and where the comm panel stuff is.  In FL it's footprint is similiar but all in the attic with the HVAC box some 10 feet from the comm closet in the attic; such that the cabling chase for the the OPII specifically for the thermostat is within easily accessible wiring.  I have added the temperature sensors directly to the Omnistat and that works also showing temps on the thermostat.   I do see some differences in temperatures between the one ouside HAI connected sensor and the 1-wire outdoor sensors.  It is mounted in the shade under an eave on brick. (1-wire sensors are also mounted in the shade).  Its been some almost 10 years and I should probably replace it.

BTW - is the firmware on the Omnistat user upgradable?

You have mentioned the time thing a few times.   Personally here the whole time sync thing not working does bug me sometimes; well did bug me when it would go totally off sync messing with my event scheduling rendering the automation somewhat useless.

I could probably hardwire by downstairs thermostat, but the upstairs would be a challenge. The Zigbee option works great besides showing the outside temperature. It seems it should be possible considering everything is HAI components. I'll probably email their tech support and see what they have to say. The firmware is upgradable, but I haven't done it yet. It requires disconnecting the Zigbee controller serial cable from the OmniPro and hooking it to a computer.

Curious how to upgrade the firmware on the Omnistat2.  Is it just a serial JTAG like setup?  Is this just for Zigbee radios?

Are there HAI links for the firmware upgrade for the Omnistat?

BTW the old HVAC wiring clusters sometimes had extra wires.  I wonder if present those could be utilized.

After updating the ZIM and Omnistats to 14.26 the outdoor temp is showing in the Omnistat status bar. I never did reboot the ZIM and Omnistats after adding the outdoor temp zone to the OmniPro. It could have been the reboot from the update resolved it. Either way I'm happy.

Yep and so far the Omnistat time matches the OmniPro console time. I should have loaded the firmware sooner.

Great news rsw686!  I have noticed that the HAI temp and combo temp/humidity sensors all show on separate pages relating to the 5.7/5.7e consoles and its nicer to see the external sensor as a message on the HAI Omnistat2.  IE: my personal touchscreens do multiple sensors, graphs et al today..

....newest endeavor is just to pull the weather maps from the satellites via radio instead of the internet...(really just doing this to see how it works using the NOAA satellites).  The "plan" though is to run the application and connect the hardware to automation server.  I am at a point now of building an antenna.  I have tested the pass over's with a little wire antenna and do hear the NOAA satellite data as it passes over head. Might start a little blog on the endeavor....easy to do for less than $50 or so....
