Does anyone know what Insteon 2 as added features etc

Supposedly there is an Insteon 2 out. Exactly what that is I do not know. Someone on another forum mentioned it has some new features. What are they and are they worth waiting for? Will they be backwards compatible with the present Insteon devices? Are any currently released devices I2?

I tried posting on Techmall and the thread was deleted.

That's fear, uncertainty and doubt. Make up a story, tell people that there's a new version just around the corner, suggest incompatibilities, and in three easy steps you've created marketplace confusion.

It's pretty much the business equivalent of asking, out of the blue and without any support, "So, Senator, when did you stop beating your wife?"

What are you talking about? Its being discussed on other forums and I dont see anything negative about it. Are there some neat features on the way? Will they work with current products? If yes awesome. Maybe I2 will have more signal strength or more hops or more error checking. I have no clue so I am asking.

You assume that it will be a bad thing with I2. I am not. But if they say that with I2 device ABC will not interact I dont want to buy that one device ABC (like signalincs).

You always seem to want to twist everything negative. I hope someone says.... I2 will have a stronger signal or more links per device or something. Lets find out before you assume I2 will be a bad thing ok.

AND WHAT STORY? Go to UDI Forum and you will see a few people discusing it and one person saying he will test it in a few weeks (meaning beta?)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello MikeB and Michel:

Mike, I'm curious as to whether you've had a chance to see if the Rev 1.5 KPL has fixed the "Must Add Primary Button Last to Scenes including Secondaries" problem that has always plagued the KPLs. I am very curious about this, as to me this is even more aggravating than the "cannot control Primary from Secondaries" problem that 1.5 is suppose to fix.

If not, would you mind running an experiment on this?

Also, if Michel, Chris or anyone can give us a layman's synopsis of what features have been added or changed in Insteon 2, this would also be great.

Best wishes,

Hey -

My understanding is that this is now working. I have a long laundry list of stuff to work on over the next couple weeks, so I don't think I'd be able to test this for a while. I'm sure by then someone else will have already confirmed.

But, again, my understanding is that this now works.

Insteon has emphasized compatibility from the beginning, including compatibility with legacy x10 devices. To suggest that they'd create a new and incompatible protocol at this stage of the game is ludicrous.

Ok so I2 is compatible with every Insteon device GREAT!! I appreciate the prompt answer. But what I would really like to know is what features are/were added? That would be great to know.

Got links? I couldn't find a search button there.

The forum link on the UDI support page doesn't go to the forum home page, which makes it confusing.
I tried to register as a user on the UDI forum and got the following message "Are you an automated spam-bot? If not, please contact the Board Administrator." How do I contact the admin without being able to login? I am not a bot and I am using the same screen name as here.

There isn't a 2, aside from the V2 that differentiates x10-only *Lincs from Insteon *Lincs.

Who, exactly, is twisting words?

Well on UDI they are talking about Insteon 2. If no such thing exists why are they talking about it? If you are trying to say it is a forbiden subject that leaked out of SL vault at this time just say so and ask the moderator to delete the thread.

Three words. Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt.

What do you think they are afraid of (or are you afraid and I misunderstood you)? You make no sense. The guy is asking them what new features are coming out. A legitimate question.

But then again if you are sure there is no I2 (and you would know as you represent SH) then this is all a mute point.

and one person saying he will test it in a few weeks (meaning beta?)

Are you talking about me??? Someone asked if I could test to see if something that didn't work in a v1.4 KPL worked in a v1.5 KPL, because he knew I had one. I said I wouldn't have time for the next couple of weeks. I have no idea about I2.

He asked Michel and Chris. If you are the Mike then I guess one of the other two can chime in.

From what I have read I think I2 just means extended messaging enabled and is probably only important to developers. The Remotelinc and Keypadlinc 1.5 are I2 but nothing else is yet as far as I can tell. Unless you are the guy behind the curtain wrestling with programming peeks and pokes it should not matter to you.
