Sorry your your reply got attached my apologies. Frank was asking Michel and Chris about the Insteon 2 features being added. Was wondering if anyone here knew what they are. Hopefully some neat stuff coming.

From what I have read I think I2 just means extended messaging enabled and is probably only important to developers. The Remotelinc and Keypadlinc 1.5 are I2 but nothing else is yet as far as I can tell. Unless you are the guy behind the curtain wrestling with programming peeks and pokes it should not matter to you.

I was hoping it would help with status of the LED's etc. And maybe communication reliability. Oh well maybe in the next version.

Actuallu Mike just clarified its out already in the REmote and the new firmware for the keypad. So no worries. Unfortunately it apparently did not add any features like the person asked. Oh well.

I am not trying to beat a dead horse, Digger, but I think we are all tired of you playing loose with the facts and not answering direct questions. You said "Its being discussed on other forums" and have refused to provide a single link, much less the multiple links that a plural forums demands. You said "one person saying he will test it in a few weeks" and you have refused to provide a link to back that quote up. In my opinion, you are either being too casual in your inflammatory posts or are deliberately twisting things to incite a riot. Then you wonder why people take exception to your posts.

I have no idea what changed in KPL 1.5 that somebody is calling it "Insteon 2". The Remotelincs have been shipping for a while, are supported by various softwares and I never heard anybody call them "Insteon 2". If the new KPL 1.5 firmware is going to require software updates to support them, then SH needs to make that very clear to the customers. I didn't see anything on http://www.smarthome.com/2486d.html that gave any hint that software updates are now needed, but then it doesn't look like they have posted updated new user manuals either, even though 1.5 is shipping. If "Insteon 2" exists, somebody should be able to properly document what changed. If "Insteon 2" is just a slang name, then it needs to be indicated as such.

In discussions I have with SH staffers long ago indicated that the then current products WERE considered V2 and the old X10 only stuff was V1, which is looking at it strictly from a *Linc perspective, not an Insteon only perspective. Any possible/future products of the next generation would likely be called V3. Now take that in the same vein as the Elk M2 in that this is purely speculation about future projects and dreaming, neither Elk nor SH has confirmed anything. In both cases, it is pretty safe to assume a great deal of compatibility will exist. All good companies always have to at least be thinking about "the next generation", but that information is usually kept as a closely guarded secret & for good reason. I bet Chevy already has some ideas about the 2012 Corvette.

It is already released apparently and is not a "rumour" or made up etc. per Mikes post. If some people do not believe it exists well does it really matter? Some people beleive in a religious being and others dont. TO each his own. If Tom F. says no such thing as I2 ok by me I dont care if that is his belief. If Mike says there is and no real changes to users ok by me as either way I am ok with it.

If you really need to know more about I2 and why SH did not update the manuals good luck trying to ask them. Maybe the new manuals will be out in a week. Maybe they are out with the actual product and the website will be updated in a week or so.

I usually fail to see the point of releasing something with a name if it doesn't affect users. So, if "Insteon 2" exists, then I assume it will have some impact on users. That impact may be as (apparently) minor as they need to get new software or re-read the instruction manual if they want to use the new features. But I doubt the software developers call that "minor". And I doubt many users will note a new feature buried in the document if you don't call it out to them.

I copied the post over to here and I gave you the email address to contact the tech support so you can join the forum. I thought by now you could have joined.

UpstateMike posted that I2 is in fact released. Great. So who is testing it... well anyone with a Remotelinc or the keypadlinc with V1.5. How does that not answer your questions? Also Mike B. posted (and I copied that here and he replied to it as well) that he will be testing the V1.5 in a few weeks.

So...... what else do you need to know? Is I2 a big deal? Not to me once Upstate Mike answered my simple questions. Apparently not many people know it exists. I did not until today and I did not know what it was until this thread where Upstate Mike told me.

If you dont believe UpstateMike you can decide if you want to take that up with him but hes a nice guy and I am sure that he is correct to the best of his knowledge.

So go ahead and sign up for UDI Forum is you want or contact SH if you want more details on I2. I just think that there is not that much to it once my questions were answered.
