ECM-1240 counting pulses

There's been a lot of conversation about the ECM-1240 - great product. I have been testing ts little sister the 1220 and it works simply and effectively. Unfortunately there has not been much discussion about 1240's Aux channel 5's ability to count pulses. It appears that Aux 5 is special and can do double-duty. I need the 1240 to handle 2 pulse-counting jobs so my question is, can Aux 4 also be set up to handle pulse counting?

I would also love to hear from anyone that is using Aux 5 for pulse counting and how that's working.
