ELK M1 causing phone noise

I have had phone noise since I installed the ELK M1 about a month ago.
I finally got around to try and figure out what the problem is. It's quite a loud hum that is very interfering.
It's definitely related to connected the ELK. When I disconnect the Elk panel cable from the line seizure jack, the noise disappears.
I reviewed the wiring from end to end and everything looks correct.
Anyone have any experience related to noise being introduced by the Elk M1 panel and what might be tried to correct the problem?

I am using Verizon FIOS. I also have M1XEP installed.
Thoughts?

Thanks!

You might have a ground loop.

Are you using a 952 surge device ? If it is grounded at the panel and your ONT is a significant distance, you might try removing the ground. If this fixes your problem, you might move the 952 as close to the ONT as possible.

I've had this problem show up when using surge protection on the telco connection, any ones that are Transorb based, over time, they eventually cause noise or short to ground, but that is because they are self sacrificing.

I'd check your wiring and possibly the cord between the panel and jack or jack itself.

Thanks for replies.
I am not using the 952 surge device. In fact, no surge device at all. It's on my list for next round purchase.
I was planning to relocate the M1XEP power supply to a UPS that powers my router

I disconnected all the connections and redid them all to eliminate bad connection as the culprit.

To be clear on my last post, I did redo all the connections but I still have the noise.
My wife made me disconnect the phone line till I fix so I am sort of stuck till I track down the problem.

Another suggestion.........

Remove the phone cable from the M1

Tie T1 to Tip
Tie R1 to Ring

See if you have still have the noise in the house phones.

Take the wire off the terminals of the 31X. Twist T to T1 pair (green to black or orange pairs twisted) and R to R1 (red to yellow or blue pairs twisted) if no hum/noise, the problem is most likely the cord or 31X. If you want to really try as a temporary test, wire the phone feed directly to the panel, in/out and see if the hum exists, but I'm leaning towards the other hardware causing issues.

Update:
I removed the Jack and tied the wires together and the phone line worked fine without any noise.
I then wired incoming and outgoing lines directly to the panel and the loud hum came back.
Must be something in the panel then, right?

I have all of the wires feeding the panel tied together in a bundle. Could the power line or other be causing the hum if they are running together for about 4 feet?

I asked about any cases of phone line noise and the only cases that anyone was aware of was when the modem IC was not working to spec and caused some noise on the phone line.

If the modem IC is faulty, you will have to return the board to be repaired.

There is a good possibility that most of your hum is due to all your wires bundled together. It would be worth a try to obtain a separate phone cord/wire and bypass that bundle. If that helps then you'll know to either unbundle or make the temporary permanent.

Update. Replaced M1 board with new M1 board, installed Elk 950 power and telephone supressor and replaced Elk power supply.
No change. An additional note is that I also lose caller Id. Twisting the telecom wires together in the panel returns caller id and call quality.
Next steps is to try separating power runs from telephone line and if that does not work then try powering keypads from separate power supply.
Can't live with this as call quality is too crappy to use.

Sounds almost like a ground issue. Are all the building grounds bonded? Is the ONT bonded to the same earth ground as the other systems in the house?

More details about your installation would help, such as was this an existing upgrade or new? Type of cabling run? Any additional equipment besides the M1? Anything connected to the M1 besides protective circuits? Is cabling running in close proximity to HV lines? Florescent fixtures, ballasts, transformers for lighting circuits?
