ELK M1 & ISY99i - Motion Dection Problem

I am needing some help configuring my Elk M1 to control a flood light when motion is detected.

I currently have a Visonic Spy 4 mounted above an exterior door and is connected to my M1. The problem is that I am not getting the flood light to come on whenever motion is detected. I am pretty confident that my rule is working correctly, but I think I may not have the zone definition correct or possibly the wiring is incorrect. When I look at the status of the zone in ELK RP it says that it is violated(when there is no motion). I have it set to "Normally closed".

The ELK and ISY are communicating because I am able to create a different rule that says whenever a door opens, turn the floodlight on, and it works great.

Any ideas on trouble shooting this?

When you meter out the wiring connected to the panel or via RP, what voltage are you seeing?

Go to Menu 8 and look at the zone voltage for the zone in question. Make sure you are not using end of line resistors with a Normally Closed Zone Hookup Definition. You should be seeing 0 volts on the zone voltage display on the keypad for a normal state.

Whether you have it as normally open or normally closed, it would still turn the light on with motion. It would just turn the light on when the motion stops instead of when it starts if you had it backwards.

So, the fact that it doesn't turn on at all means that you have something else wrong.

Take your laptop computer with elkrp loaded up on it and watch your status screen. Go dance around in front of the motion detector and see if the voltage changes on that zone. If there is no change at all, you either have a broken motion detector, non-connected/broken wire, or you are looking at the wrong zone.

If the voltage does change, post what it is with and without motion. Also, post your rule.

According to the manual, normally closed is the correct setting (unless you used an EOLR on it, in which case you should set it to EOLR). Since you are saying it is violated with no motion, it is most likely a wiring issue. Follow the advice above then double-check your terminations, if that doesn't solve it, take it out and try to wire it directly to the panel to rule out wiring/or bad device.

Thanks for the help guys. Unfortinately I am away from the install stie until this weekend but I will look at the wiring and give an update.

From what I remember, the rule I created for testing it is:

WHENEVER zone 8 becomes unsecure
THEN turn on flood light

I looked at it and ended up I had a couple of the wires wrong! But now it works.

Now I am wanting to have my rule apply a delay (approximately 3 seconds) before the light comes on.

Is there a way to apply a delay like this? I am not seeing it within the RP.

THEN Turn on Output 100 for 3 seconds

WHENVER Output 100 turns off THEN
THEN turn on flood light
